Lakeland Capital is scamming and preying on vulnerable people. A company representative by the name of "*******" contacted my elderly mother indicating that she owed a large sum of money to a credit union and that she was calling to set up a repayment plan for the debt. She indicated that if my mother did not pay Lakeland Capital would pursue legal action and have my mother arrested. The threatening call frightened my mother who agreed to start paying. Lakeland Capital garnished $600 from my mother's account. When I became aware of it, I contacted Lakeland Capital letting them know that I would be calling the bank to have these charges disputed. It was a recording with no company name indicated. I left a message and "*******" called me back. The conversation immediately became heated once I indicated that I was calling the bank to have the charges disputed and to block future garnishments. I asked ******* for her last name, but she would not give it. She also claimed that she was working for a federal agency. She then told me that the local authorities would be called to issue an arrest warrant for my mother. When she realized she could not intimidate me, she hung up. I immediately called my bank to dispute the charges and to block this company from continuing to garnish money from my mother's bank account. By the time I called the bank, the bank representative indicated that Lakeland Capital had just authorized refunds to my mother's account for the money they had taken. Within three days the money was back in my mother's account without my having to file a dispute. The company was also block from garnishing any additional funds.
