We hired Lola Construction at the end of May 2024 to convert our garage into a rec room, starting construction in early June. **** and her partner **** provided an estimate, suggesting a minimum cost of $13,500 but recommending a $15,000 budget for a clean, polished finish. On day one, we were impressed by the rapid progress of demolition and framing. However, issues soon arose: missed floor cracks, stairs installed before the concrete floor was finished (preventing proper painting and repair), improperly installed door hardware, and gaps along walls and doorways. **** acknowledged these problems and promised fixes. Despite assurances, problems persisted, including improperly installed step platforms, unpatched wall holes, and poorly sanded joints.Delays occurred, but **** continued to reassure us the job would be completed correctly. I paid them in cash at the end of each day as requested for labor and materials.Near the end, **** requested an additional $500 to finish the work, which I provided. They advised waiting three days before walking on the floor, claiming the job was complete.Upon inspection, the workmanship was appalling. The painting was patchy with no primer applied. The walls had missing mudding and a large hole around an electrical pipe, despite being pointed out multiple times. The step platforms were not removed for proper concrete repair. Trim was poorly installed with large gaps and incorrect cuts. Exposed outlets had no covers, with one having a wood s**** instead of proper screws. Exterior caulking was uneven, with mismatched colors.Despite repeatedly asking for receipts for cash payments, I never received any. The job site was left in disarray, leading us to spend over 30 hours fixing painting, patching, sanding, and redoing molding with other finishing work like removing and replacing ALL exterior caulk.We regret hiring Lola Construction and Will, and would strongly advise others to choose a different contractor.
