On 02/07/24 at approximately 3:00pm, I noticed 2 puddles of water in my living room and bedroom. I immediately called my apartment complex and let them know about the situation. As it turned out, the water line connecting to the outside spigot had burst. The apartment manager stated that this has occurred on three other occasions recently and that they would reimburse accommodation due to high noise volume from servpro fans. The complex called out Servpro, a water damage restoration company. They set up 6 fans and 2 dehumidifiers for the relatively small water puddles. They stated they would be back out in 5 days. Regardless, the apartment complex is stating that I am financially obligated to the entirety of the damage (servpro, carpet tacking, drywall repair, and plumbing). They are stating that the reason that I am obligated is because I had a hose attached to the outside spigot. Nowhere in the lease does it state that I cannot have a hose connected to the outside spigot; furthermore, this line could have bursted whether the hose was attached or not. When confronting the apartment manager, the only clause they could pull out of the lease was that I am not allowed to wash my car in the apartment. I was using the hose to clean off waste from animals on the sidewalk that I had just sent video proof and evidence to the apartment complex regarding owners not cleaning up after their animals. The complex is now stating that they are to handle all of my personal belongings and move it out of the room to "clean the carpet". This is insane. I should not be obligated to this situation, there is no clause in the lease that states I cannot have a hose spigot attached, there is no clause stating that I will be responsible for water damage, and since I stayed in the apartment, funding for accommodation at a hotel should be the very least that they are willing to pay towards the bills.
