Dishonest business practices. Adding on un-announced fees, and refusing to remove them. We were quoted exactly $99 for service, but charged $126.62. This is more than $20 beyond the cost of tax alone. Note: there were no parts used or shop costs associated with this diagnosis. We have complained to the clerk, and to the manager, and they are refusing to remove that charge. We had no choice but to pay the extortion in order to get the car back. This is deeply unethical behaviour from University Kia. Ideally we would like the $20 they have extorted from ** to be refunded.

I show no record of a ********************* ever being a service customer of ours. There is also no record of anyone at the phone number ************* every being a service customer of ours. This customer may have gone to a different service center. In an effort to make sure that we are operating within guidelines I did find a diagnostic ** on a Kia ****** recently that came to a total of $126.63. I looked at the ** and the diagnostic charge was $99.99. There was tax charged in the amount of $8.84 and a hazardous disposal & supplies charge in the amount of $17.80. All of these charges are gone over and explained when signed and paid for. The hazardous disposal and supplies charge is a standard charge at all service centers and is used to cover a wide variety of shop supplies used in every **(gloves, soap, lubricants, grease, etc).

      Thank you,

      Complaint: 20173616

I am rejecting this response because:
I am attaching a photo of the receipt for this visit.  Contrary to the claims of the the respondent, at NO point were charges "gone over and explained", or, indeed, even MENTIONED.  It is absolutely false for them to claim that they were.

As demonstrated on the attached receipt, what was being diagnosed was merely the brake lights/turn signal bulbs.  This is merely a matter of unscrewing the tail-light assemblies and looking at them.  There are no "hazardous disposal [or] supplies" involved.  But, regardless, even if there HAD been some sort of extra supplies, as established above there was never any indication that the charge would be anything other than $99 plus tax.  Tax, in Durham, is 7.5%.  7.5% of $99 is $7.42.  This takes the total allowable charge to $106.42, meaning that they have overcharged ** by $20.21 above and beyond what was agreed to.  This is dishonest business practice at the very least, and outright fraud at the worst.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

After speaking with everyone at the dealership that was involved with ****************** and his vehicle, I know that there was nothing done that was dishonest and my staff acted correctly in explaining charges to him and his mother. I will however be refunding $20.21 to ****************** to make sure that all parties involved know that University Kia operates with integrity.

      Thank you,
