After a small concrete job the project manager offered to be the general contractor for our larger backyard renovation. Proposal signed in June 6 and deposit of $36k (50% off total) was paid then. It was supposed to be a 5 week jobs and it took me that long to get a first reply to an email with updates. On their last communication they claimed the delay was due to permits - I checked with the city and permit was pending documents from the contractor. Ive been trying to get in touch with them for almost a month without success. Phones are either disconnected or they don't pick up. I am looking for guidance on how to proceed to get my money back.Business response

This customer has a very legitimate complaint about how things played out during the course of our business together. The full story has a couple of twist & turns that created the major confusion between this customer & our company.
Our sales representative & office manager made some promises that were not approved within our company with regards to this project. Then he contracted COVID-19 and missed roughly one (1) month of work. During this period of time, even I could not consistently get him to answer the phone. This became even more complicated because he had control via passwords of my office telephone & email system. I had no idea of this customers calls (as well as other customers).
During his COVID-19 treatment, he became aware of some more serious items pertaining to his general health. Once he learned this news, he abruptly left my employment and relocated across the country to California with family. I had no notice of any pending issues that related to current or past customers.
Once I was aware of the issues with this customer I immediately made contact with her to resolve the issues. I delivered her a check that made restitution for her deposit on this contract in full. After explaining the situation to the customer she was very understanding and polite.
In all my years in business, never before or since have I had any complaints lodged against me with the Better Business Bureau.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, which was the same provided to me in person by the owner during our communication and got the refund back. This resolution is satisfactory to me.
