Construction LLC to have renovations done to my home. I was verbally
quoted by Mr. ****** **** and his mentor, Mr. *******, that the work
could be completed for $75,000-$80,000 and would take approximately 6
weeks to complete. I was told by Mr. **** that the money would be
collected in 3 stages and not all at once. It should have bee, the
beginning, the middle, and the balance at the completion of the job. On
Tuesday, May 10th, 2022, the first payment, check #1705 for $29,300 was
written and given to Mr. ****. On Thursday, June 02, 2022, the second
payment, check #1706 for $29,300 was given to Mr. ****. On Tuesday June
28th, 2022 the 3rd payment, check #1708 for $18,000 was given to Mr.
****. To date I have paid a total of $76,600 within a 2-month period and
my house is nowhere near being completed. As a matter of fact, not much
has been completed since demolition. We are now going into the end of
the seventh month and the amount of money that I have paid in no way
reflects nor equal to the work that has been performed. I have paid well
over 50% to have this work done, which on their website states: “If
they are asking for more than 50% up front, that is a red flag”. I was
told upfront by Mr. **** that my house would be priority but I have
often noticed that there is absolutely no work being performed on days
when weather is not an issue. Mr. **** has instead taken on new projects
and has completed them since committing to my home renovations. I
suspect that my project has been put on the back burner and I am not
being told why. I have been staying with my niece and her family during
this process, which has taken longer, much longer than anticipated. I
keep being told, “give me three weeks and your house will be ready”. I
have been given false information over and over and I believe that he
has taken my money and spent it. I have been extremely patient and
terrible inconvenienced. I am looking to have this matter resolved as
quickly as possible. There has been so much trash and debris left on and
around my property that my house looked abandoned and uncared for. I
have asked Mr. **** on several occasions to get that trash up and I was
told by Mr. **** and I quote “that construction is going on so there
will be trash”. I was served twice with violations from the City of
Durham Neighborhood Improvement about all the trash. It took that to get
him to get the trash up. Every time that I ask Mr. **** when will I be
able to move back home, I am told, “well I really should’ve charged you
more than what I did because I am not making any money off of this job.”
Mr. **** once gave me the excuse that someone has stolen all of the
lumber off of my property that he had purchased and he had to go and buy
more. Mr. **** continues to switch between either I don’t owe him
anymore money, to I still owe him $12,000 before he is going to finish
the work. Mr. **** tells me that he is going to finish the job and I
don’t owe him any more money. I am constantly being told by Mr. ****
that I am taking advantage of him because I still owe him money, even
though he has stated that I do not owe him any more money. I stated that
I do not have any issues paying him the $3,400 balance but I am not
giving him anymore money until the job is complete. Honestly, I feel as
though I am the one that is being taken advantage of. On Wednesday,
December 07, 2022 Mr. **** asked me to call him. I called Mr. **** on my
lunch break and this was the conversation. Mr. **** said that on
Monday, December 12, 2022 after the City of Durham Neighborhood
Improvement comes by to make sure there is no trash, he would have his
plumber to come out and pull a permit. He also stated that within two
weeks of December 12,2022, if my house is not ready he would give me my
money back, but that would not be an issue because my house would be
ready. Today is that two-week mark, and I am still in the same
situation. My house is not ready. I have copies of the communication
between Mr. **** and myself as well as the violations from the City of
Durham Neighborhood Improvement. I also have pictures of the work or
lack thereof performed at my property. I can email if necessary.
