On August 5th 2021 Culligan installed a water treatment system at my home at the cost of $1595.92. At the end of February 2022, there was a sewage smell emitting from the crawl space under my house. Not knowing why or where this smell was coming from, I called a plummer. The plummer informed me that the Culligan water system failed and was spewing dirty water in the crawl space. I then called Culligan and asked to have the system removed. I spoke with their representative, *****, and he said that Culligan would removed the system and refund my money. Since then I have been promised that Culligan would be at my house to remove the system four different times. I have asked that Culligan email me that a refund will be honored. As of yet, neither the email has been sent nor has anyone returned my calls.Initial Complaint

The issue is my Culligan water softener system continuously spilled wastewater in my crawl space throughout the year after Culligan refurbished the water softener system. I also paid a monthly fee to assure the system worked properly which required inspections by Culligan. At a later date, I was told by a hot water heater repairman that I had water in my crawl space. I later hired ****************** ($2700) to repair the issue. After the ***************** manager inspected the work, he notified me that he found the source of the water. The source was water draining from a hose leading to the Culligan tank and he provided a screenshot. I called several times to get Culligan to fix the issue. One of their service providers finally came out and explained that they usually connect the hose to the main line that leads to the septic tank but this was not done. I later spoke to *****, general manager and owner regarding the issue. He blamed the previous owner for the improper installation by saying the previous owner wanted the drainage to go out of a window via a tube requiring punching a hole through the screen and discharging wastewater along the outside of the crawl space. ***** followed that up with blaming alleged ghost contractors for destroying the sophisticated system they installed to discharge the wastewater. The only contractors that were in my crawl space were ****************** to remove the water and a contractor from the gas company to replace a hot water heater located in a different section of my crawlspace. The draining of water in my crawl space have caused black mold growth throughout which caused a damp musty smell in my home along with hazards that come from living above black mold. I had 2 independent companies to inspect and they both found black mold throughout the crawl space as attached pictures will display. The wet grounds also provide perfect breeding for bugs which were found in the house.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/30) */ Contact Name and Title: ************, Manager Contact Phone: **************************************************** To whom it may concern: The Culligan Water System that Mr. ******* is referring to, was sold to a Mr.******** **** on March 28, 2016. The system was installed on April 7, 2016. The equipment was tested and confirmed to be working correctly 6 times in the first 12 months. Culligan has not been underneath Mr. *******'s home to be able to damage anything under his home. Mr. ******* explained that he has had multiple service contractors under his home since he purchased the property in 2017. The Culligan Water service technician that went to Mr. *******'s property on October 19, 2021 found a damaged drain line. Not a drain line that was incorrectly installed. The technician repaired the drain line. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/02) */ I paid a fee of around $70 monthly to have Culligan provide maintenance on the water system they refurbished and installed and this is why I am holding them responsible for their water system discharging water in my crawl space. Culligan does not need to take my word regarding the cause of the damage. Two 3rd parties reviewed the issue and determined that Culligan was responsible for the water damage in the crawl space. I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance company regarding the water damage. They sent a claim adjuster out and he examined the damage and installation and determined it was the installation that caused the water damage. The insurance company rejected the claim because of faulty installation of the Culligan water softener system and how it was discharging water into the crawl space. I have this in writing and will provide documentation from the insurance company's claim adjuster's findings if this matters goes to court. I also filed a complaint with the *******************'s office and they referred to the needed repairs and strongly suggested that Culligan should not carry out their threat of ending my water service in retaliation for filing the complaint. Ending my water service requires installation of new water equipment which could cost thousands in retaliation for filing the complaint. I can provide documentation from that office also. I will make an offer to resolve this issue so we all can move on. I paid $2,700 to install a system to remove water from my crawl space because of the Culligan's water discharge. I also have to pay an additional $2300 for mold removal. I am requesting $2,700 and continued service to resolve this issue. No business should be held to a standard of perfection. A business should be judged on how they work to fix problems and take responsibility for issues they caused. Its disingenuous to blame others for their (Culligan) mistakes with no evidence at all. The only contractors in my crawl space was the one who replaced a hot water heater in a different section of the crawls space and he notified me of the water. The other contractor went into the crawl space to remove the water. I feel my offer is more than fair to settle this matter asap.
