A "cousin domain" impersonation attack happens when an attacker creates a false company website or email nearly identical to the legitimate organization website. In this case the verified company Sunni Transportation did not have a website and the attackers created a believable fake using stock pictures company executives and the actual motor carrier registration numbers for actual verified owner. Attackers can go as far as completely copying the website design of the legitimate website.
The other victims of the scam claimed they we searching on Facebook Marketplace for their vehicles/RV/machinery. Someone claiming to be the seller reached out to them, sent them pictures and information about the item. The sale price was always a "really good price" and the seller "needed to sell fast" to take care of medical bills, going through a divorce or other reason for letting the item go so cheap. Once a price was agreed upon the seller would send a contract via Docusign with payment amount for the escrow service, collect the money via wire transfer, and include the information about Sunni Transportation and Escrow Service. Of course a promise date for delivery would never happen and left the victim with no further contact to the seller
