Tarheel builders was paid to shingle my roof and replace all windows and remodel bathroom. 2 months later bathroom still not complete and Mr **** (the owner of the business also a preacher) is adding almost ********* to the bill for lumber and labor than he can not prove. I have had no contact from Mr **** for almost a week. So I plan to hire another contractor to repaint my bathroom for a 4th time and fix the new toilet that is a rocking chair. He installed a cheaper shower head so he save money for himself even though I purchased the one I wanted installed myself

This is my formal response in regards to the complaint submitted to BBB by former client ****************

"Concerning Mrs ***************** false statements she submitted in regards to the charges she states were added to the contact  I, *************** (owner of business contracted) submitted an initial quote/signed contract with client *************** for roofing and windows totaling in the amount of $21,220. Upon removal of shingles we found multiple underlying issues that needed to be rectified to include the following:

      1. We had to level 5 trusses upon plywood removal additional cost totaling $625.00
      2. We had to uncover a 3rd layer of shingles on home that was not detected until the first known 2 layers were removed; Mrs. **************** homeowner, stated she was not aware there was a 3rd layer of shingles; additional cost totaling $760.00 (38 sq @ $20 per sq ft)
      3. We had to rebuild a cricket that was rotted out and re-flash the chimney where it was leaking as well additional cost totaling $875.00
      4. We had to replace 14 sheets of plywood that was rotten additional cost totaling $1,330.00
      5. We had to install 280 ft of new eve top @ $3.50 ft additional cost totaling $980.00

All additional unexpected work totaled $4,570.00 bringing final contract price to $25,790.00

There was clearly never an additional $10,000 added to client's contract. The additional unexpected work was brought to the client's attention including pricing and was approved by Mrs *************** to move forward with the job for completion.

Date: 22 August 2022 Amount: $11,450.00 a)Material: $9,450.00 b)Labor: $2,000,00 Nature of Complaint: I signed a Home Improvement Consumer Sale Agreement with TarHeel Builders in the amount of $9,450.00. I assumed that this would cover the repairs I needed done to my roof. A few days later, I was told that I would have to pay another $2000.00 to cover the labor costs. Moreover, the 'dip' in the roof that was pointed out to me by another roofer earlier on one side of the roof, is still there! I believe that I walked off into some sort of 'bait and switch' operation because I am now convinced that the $9,450.00 should have covered the required material and the required labor. After all, their "Home Improvement Consumer Credit Sale Agreement" refers to 'Description of Goods and/or Services purchased.' I thought I was purchasing both!

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/10/10) */ In response to Mr. ****** complaint. We had to take 20 sheets of bad plywood off the home that was only seen after the removal of shingles. We charge $100 per sheet of plywood. This also includes labor and materials. As you know, we are a respectful contractor and can not cover hidden costs such as material of plywood until found.
