We hired Tarheel Builders of Fayetteville, NC, owned by Mr. Jerry E to build custom kitchen cabinets. We paid $5000 down and we were to pay the rest $1900 when the work was done and I was satisfied. I was never told before hand that maple wood does not take stain very well. The sample color I picked out looks nothing like the actual cabinet color. The doors were multi-colored, as you see in the pictures, with half the doors being dark and half being light. There were many other discrepancies, like the gap between the stove and cabinet (the other side is not like that), and some drawers higher than the other. When Mr. Edge came out to look at the builders work, he asked what all I wanted redone...the agreement was for all 6 cabinet doors to be replaced, (not just 4...which still are not like the color I picked out) along with the 3 darker drawer facings.

I researched several custom cabinet makers but somehow got mixed up and went with the one that I has the worst reviews and has been to the better business bureau several times.

The sales person came by this morning to see how everything went and to also collect the rest of payment. He called his boss Mr. Edge to let him know of the other discrepancies that need to be corrected, but Mr. Edge stated he will not complete the job and the judge will settle it. I was willing to pay another $1400 today and the remaining $500 once those 2 darker cabinet doors are replaced and the 3 darker facings, he still refused the offer.

My daughter reached out to a custom builder in Charlotte, NC and he told us the job was not custom at all. He saw so many different issues and was even willing to call Tarheel Builders on our behalf.

To settle this, I would like for the 2 darker cabinet doors, the 3 darker drawer facings, the loose sink, the gap on the floor to the right of the stove, and the overlap of brown wood fixed/re-done. I waited a long time to get my kitchen cabinets, the set I had before were 45 years old. I waited and saved for what I thought would be a beautiful set of custom-made cabinets. I would feel much better to come home and be pleased when I look in my kitchen, especially after spending $5,000 already. There is no way I can pay a total of $6,970 for these so-called "custom" cabinets.

I have already contacted Diane the troubleshooter and will be making a report to the BBB and to the attorney General. I tried to settle this with Mr. Edge, but now we will be going to court. I'm sure with all the pictures I have and written statements from other custom builders that he will reap what he is sowing. Anyone that has to go around saying they are a pastor, but doing dirty business like this...beware!

If he can't hire qualified, experienced builders and can't stand behind the work, then he should close shop and retire.
