We purchased what we were told was a new Maytag dryer from the Appliance Center on December 30, 2023. We specifically told the salesman, ****, that we did not want to look at the "scratch and dent" appliances when he pointed them out. We paid $689.60, including a delivery fee of $40 and a ****** Goods Fee" of $15. We are retired Hendersonville residents in our late 70s. When the dryer was delivered on 1/3/2024, our daughter who is also an attorney, was present. The delivery men were working in the laundry room and were banging on the bottom of the dryer. When we questioned them, they said that they were unable to affix the bottom panel because it was broken and the feet could not be installed. We told them that we did not want a broken dryer, and they refused to take it back when we asked. We immediately called the salesman with whom we had dealt, and he said it was our obligation to inspect the dryer for damage before purchase. When we asked if he recalled telling us about the damage, he said he was not aware of the damage. We asked him to pick up the broken dryer and issue us a refund (not including the delivery fee which we agreed to pay in an effort to resolve the matter). He refused. As the dryer was delivered, the base of the unit was broken in multiple places. The feet used to level the dryer were left by the installers because they were unable to attach them to the broken base. Additionally, the delivery team broke the white plastic underpinning attempting to install it and left it atop the unit with the broken piece. We have communicated with the business on multiple occasions, but the business has refused to communicate with us or provide us with any information requested. We are unable to locate the business on the *********************'s website. We were forced to purchase another dryer and the damaged dryer is currently in our garage taking up valuable space. The business is charging illegal fees and preying on the innocent.
