Took my car to J&J Auto Upholstery for an interior leak. They left it in the rain for three months causing the trunk and cabin to fill with water and now the car is totaled. The electrical system in the car which is located under the back seat is fried. Also, instead of fixing the leak first he put new carpet in knowing the leak was not fixed. I called weekly for almost 3 months and he would tell me he was working on the car but it was just sitting outside being ruined. I have pictures of before and pictures and video of the extensive damage after and the continued damage of black mold due to the car being full of water. I sent a certified return receipt letter which I will enclose. It came back the other day because no one at the shop would sign for it and the post office keeps it ten days before returning. I have the original unopened letter with the return to sender on it. This car was a beautiful vintage Cadillac with only 34k miles, now it is a hunk of rotting steel that will not run. Please find enclosed letter J^J rejected.Business response

*************** brought me the Cadillac stating it was leaking from the vinyl top and that it had ruined the carpet and when he left it he stated he was in no hurry and at the time we were covered up so it did take us a few weeks before we got to it and we never told him we could keep the car inside we just dont have the room .After we started working on it we pulled the seats, carpet and headliner to check for the leak and we found out it wasnt coming from the top but it was a seal around the driver door opening to which I searched for a week or to to find one and there was. It one available anywhere at all and I told *************** this to which he said he would get us one for the car and he prefer two or three different ones over the next couple weeks and they were all wrong .After we discovered the seal wasnt available we went ahead and put the new carpet in it and put the interior back together and after that we kept it under cover .When he picked up the car I explained to him exactly what we had done and that the leak was still there and we didnt have any way to fix it and he paid us for the carpet and left .Then a week later he stopped payment on the check .As far as a certified letter we never received anything from the post office at all about a certified letter we would never reject a letter from anyone we stand behind every thing we do and our reputation is one of our main concerns.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: First of all the car is leaking from the roof, I have a master mechanic to attest to that he found the leak in 5 minutes. The owner had my car over 3 months not a few weeks. Why would you leave a car that you know has a leak out for three months. Second, yes I stopped payment on the check when I never made it home from the shop. The reason I never made it home is because the trunk and interior was FULL of water and this man put carpet in a car he knew leaked! My car is ruined it will never run again because J&J was negligent in leaving a car they knew leaked out in the rain for 3 months. I have pictures and video my trunk is full of water. Third, why would you put new carpet in a car you knew leaked. Last I had to sign for the certified letter I sent to J&J and have it in my possession. If we can not reach an agreement I will be forced to take this man to court because you have to exorcise ***************** of a vehicle left in your possession. Leaving a car you know the roof leaks out in the elements for 3 months and then putting carpet in it is not reasonable care. We can settle this now or you can pay my attorney's fees (he charges ******* an hour, when you loose the case. I believe J&J gave that car back to me knowing it was ruined and I don't see how they think I would figure it out. I am attaching a picture of how full of water my trunk is. I have a video of all the mold that grew in the car when J&J had it but it is too large to put in your attachment I will present it in court if needed. This cr was in EXCELLENT condition with 34,000 miles and 0 water damage when I gave it to J&J. It ran perfect and there was no mold or water whatsoever in the car. It came back ruined. I will not accept the fact that because J&J was neglect in handling my car and they allowed it to be ruined, that I should have to pay for it.
