On 12/6/22 I paid $1,174.21 to have an alarm and remote start installed on my 2010 Toyota Highlander. On approximately 12/19/22 I remote started the vehicle before leaving for work and the remote start failed. I had several warning lights and error codes on the dashboard. I tried to start the car and it didn't start up. I called Dedona and spoke with the manager Brian and asked if they has any idea what was happening. They assured me nothing was installed incorrectly and no problems like this ever occur. The next day I disconnected the battery and took it to the auto parts store and had them charge the battery. I reinstalled the battery and started the car. The car started but all of the warning lights were still there and the car was shift locked. I could not drive it. The next day I called Dedona and spoke with the manager and he instructed me to come back to the shop and let them look at it. On 12/22/22 I looked up how to get the car out of shift lock by pressing a release button on the gear shifter. I attempted to drive it to Dedona but half way there the car died. I was stranded on the road. I called a tow service and was originally going to have it towed to Dedona however due to the Holliday they would be closed on 11/23/22 and were closed on the weekend and I believe Monday as well. Due to the nature of the warning lights and codes and the car telling me to take to the dealer immediately and the unavailability of Dedona shop for the next several days, I had it towed to the dealership instead. They diagnosed the car and determined the problem was the remote start system being installed incorrectly and the remote start was running without the use of the alternator and running just off of battery power. The remote start also caused several fuses to blow. The manager of Dedona did go to the dealership and remove the remote start system in order to cut costs of the dealership removing it. Dedona has refused to pay the repair & tow stating they don't feel at fault.

      Business response

      02/08/2023

In response to the complaint filed by ***** *********. There have been several phone and digital correspondence between Mr. *********, manager; Brian ***, and owner; Bruce ******. We did in fact do a routine installation of a Remote start on a 2010 Toyota Highlander for Mr. *********. When the vehicle left the premises the vehicle was functioning properly. The customer called on 12/20/22 to let Mr. *** know that his battery had died at which time Mr. *** recommended he have his battery checked, which he did. On 12/22/22 Mr. *** was aware that the customer was bringing the vehicle back to the shop (DeDona Tint & Sound, Inc.) to let us check it out. Mr. *** was waiting for him to arrive. The business was closed on 12/23/22 for Christmas but not the following Monday (12/26/22). The following Wednesday, 12/28/22 Mr. ********* let Mr. *** know that they dealership (**** **** ******) would be removing the remote start at which time Mr. *** received permission from Mr. ********* to go to the dealership and remove the remote start himself. After conversations with Mr. *** and Mr. DeDona, Mr. ********* agreed to allow DeDona Tint & Sound to reinstall the remote start and at that time if the issues were to happen again DeDona Tint & Sound would reimburse for any and all charges to repair the vehicle. Mr. ********* wanted the agreement in writing which was provided to him on January 4th. (See attached letter)  DeDona Tint & Sound made the agreement because we are confident that our installation was NOT the cause of the issues with Mr. *********’s vehicle. However, we did not agree to pay for the charges without the opportunity to prove to Mr. ********* that the installation was not the issue. We have tried to work with Mr. ********* to come to an agreement about the repairs and the charges to no avail. We will continue to try and work with Mr. ********* should he allow us the opportunity written in the agreement. As stated, we are confident DeDona Tint & Sound is not responsible for the mechanical issues of Mr. *********’s vehicle.

      Customer response

      02/08/2023

I am rejecting this response because:
Dedona Tint and sound told me they stand by their work, however when a factory dealership showed me that they were responsible for the electrical malfunctions of my vehicle shortly after installing the remote start and alarm, they refused to take responsibility and require me to put my vehicle at risk by reconnecting the remote start and alarm system without fixing the original bad installation.
