I hired Marathon to move from **************** ** to *************. It was a large move as the property was six acres, with two full homes and three storage buildings. One storage bldg contained my belongings all previously packed in boxes when I came to care for my parents. Im a senior citizen widowed and handling the sale of this property and move on my own it was very stressful. The Marathon rep. who came gave an estimate sounded convincing that my move would go smoothly. I hoped since my realtor recommended them that it would go well, it did not. The first red flag was the day after I put my deposit and secured my move date. I received a message saying they had already booked with another client and I had to change my move date.I did all of the arrangements, filled out all the paperwork, and had already paid the deposit. Their final word was well its first come first serve sorry. But I was first come. At this point I was out of options and had to maneuver my closing date and had no option with time in order to find and secure another mover or I wouldve. It gets worse. The day they arrived I knew I was in trouble. The lack of packing care or care for any of the things precious to me was appalling. I made attempts to get the lead to see and do something about what was happening to no avail. It was just me there a single older woman and seven of them. They ended up damaging so many precious things of mine and my late husbands not to mention the theft of items in total apx. $40k was damaged and stolen items. The owner initially seemed sympathetic and promised in writing to get my items back + fix the others or replace them. He named an employee he believed stole my belongings as he had another customer with the same guy on their move that had items stolen. But after presenting a spreadsheet to the owner ***** he said its up to his insurance *** and of course they claim these things arent covered. Worst move of my 65 years with the most losses. Heartbreaking.Customer response

I tried to aid you as much as I could. We cooperated with the police and they, and we, had no proof he stole anything. All we had was a hunch. I came down to the police station and helped get the ball rolling when they would not call you back. I like how you left out that part. I'm sorry there are laws to protect movers from fraudulent claims and you have to meet a burden of proof that just was not there.
Thanks

I am rejecting this response because:
There was no attempt to resolve anything in the Marathon Movers response, merely a snide narrative followed by an intimation of threat from the owner.
He writes, I came down to the police station and helped get the ball rolling when they would not call you back. But thats not an accurate description of why he met me at the police department. In his remarks he attempts to suggest he had assisted in getting a faster response from the detective to get the ball rolling when in fact he and I had spoke on the phone and I told him that I was going down to the police station to see if I could speak with the detective to which he responded that he would like to meet me there because he had information on the employee he had fired and wanted to give this to the detective because he couldnt get ahold of the detective either. I have a recording of a conversation between he and I at the police station which includes him saying just what I outlined.
He goes on to say I'm sorry there are laws to protect movers from fraudulent claims as if Im the one making the fraudulent claim and could be held liable. What he doesnt say here is everything he told me and the detective about his former employee, or about how this very employee was recently on another clients move crew and how they too had almost the exact same experience with being robbed by his mover.
Up until the point where I completed the spreadsheet and gave it to him for the missing and damaged items he was polite, and made an effort to appear sincere, even saying I promise you were going to get your items back, but after I turned in my list his demeanor changed.Customer response

I have not been contacted by the business owner and no charges have been made although I did file a police report. I was contacted by the company insurance agent who denied most of my claim but made an offer of approximately $1600 on my $40,000 claim.
