My husband and I signed a pre-lease agreement with Treybrooke apartments for a July 29,2023 move in. We signed this at the end of June. At that time Treybrooke did not have an available apartment so they told us that the pre-lease meant they would have one ready for our move in date but that we would be able to walk through and approve before moving in. We were told to come in on July 15, 2023 for the walk through. When my husband and I walked into the unit it reeked of cigarette smoke. It was in the walls, coming through the vents. We promptly went to the office and told them we could not accept this unit as is. The office proceeded to try to tell us it was just stale as if we don't know what cigarette smoke smells like. They said they would use an ozone machine and we could come back in a few days to see it again. We came back a few days later and it still smelled heavy of smoke. They had plugged febreeze air freshener into the walls to try to mask the smell. We went to the office and told them absolutely not. So they took us to another unit and said we could have that one. That unit was not renovated and looked nothing like the one we requested AND they wanted us to pay the same price. So we said no. They then told us they would not be willing to return the 300 dollar hold we paid to sign the prelease. We asked why and they told us we were breaking a lease. This is ridiculous, We never moved in and we never approved an apartment. It is on them that one of their units was smoked in and they should resolve that. We would like our ************************************************************************************** getting a unit ready for us.Initial Complaint

This apartment complex has a bug/roach infestation. Multiple tenants have confirmed this fact. I moved in on 4/18/22 and on 4/19/22 I found 6 roaches/bugs of various sizes within the apartment in which I had no furniture yet. I went to the leasing office and they stated this was rare and that they can only send pest control on Fridays. The next day there were more bugs. I went to speak to the manager who came up to my apartment to look. She picked up one of the bugs with her hand and stated it wasn’t a roach and therefore wasn’t a big deal. I offered pictures and videos of bugs that were roaches and she stated this was still a safe circumstance to live in. She also stated that they would charge me over $1,000 to breach the contract because bugs aren’t a “ legitimate reason to breach”. Pest control didn’t arrive until the next Friday (11 days after the initial complaint). I sprayed as well as ***** and there are still bugs within the apartment. I have been staying in a hotel intermittently (the manager was made aware of this). The only resolution offered was to continue sending ***** to spray (Another 10 days after reporting). No credit for rent was offered nor an apology for the managers unprofessional behavior was given. I work in the healthcare field and bugs carry diseases and are not safe to have within a residence. I have to keep most of my belongings in my car because of this issue. This business is scamming multiple people and are very nonchalant when it comes to accommodating & showing empathy towards their tenants when dealing with issues that are a direct result of their uncleanliness & property negligence.Business response

The apartment was walked by management on 5/23/2022 after receiving this complaint. No living bugs were seen in the apartment at this time. We have scheduled for ***** to treat the apartment for pest on 5/27/2022 and again on 6/3/2022 as sometimes it takes a series of treatments to completely eliminate all pests based on their cycle of life in the apartment.
