I bought a car from Phil at Seaside powersports and was told that the car had a clean title and no wrecks or negative marks on the carfax. I noticed some problems with the steering being tight so I ask my parents about it and we found that the bar on the rear was broke. We took it to a mechanic to have the repairs done and found out that the rust was so advanced that they were afraid if it was unbolted that it would brake and not be repairable. During the inspection we found out that the car shows very visible signs of being a flood car but still has a clean tilte. The car also has brake lines that are rusted almost completely into and the powersteering pump is leaking terribly. I took all the steps to see what I could do to fix it and they found out that the main support in the rear that protects you if you are rearended has a hole almost rusted completely through. I paid him to get my tags and he provided me with temporay 30 tag and didn't tell me that we had to get different ones where my husband is in the military. I was told by Phil that I was good to go. I am with a car that is not safe to be on the road and I don't want to sell due to not wanting to get anyone else hurt. I am upset at this situtation because it shoudn't take someone getting hurt or even killed before he will take responsibility for his actions. I contacted Phil trying to resolve this problem and he was rude and told me I caused all the problems to this car. I told him that there was no way I could have caused the amount of problems it has from the severe rust. He told me he didn't know anything about an investagation and that I was just being nasty and he wasn't taking to me and hung up on me. I didn't start this out to just get a refund I just wasn't sure what I was suppose to do to get it fixed due to the severity of the damage. I am including a message from the mechanic and pics to show the damage and it will also show where the car has water damage. The pics will also show the water is still standing inside the car underneath the floor. He told me several times that it wasn't on the carfax the North Carolina inspector said it passed inspection but he hasn't even looked at teh car to see if it really would pass inspection.

      Business response

      01/22/2023

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/12/13) */ ******** ****** purchased this vehicle on 7/25/2022. They returned a few weeks later to pick up their permanent license plate, spoke with Phil, and all was well. Mrs. ****** was driving the car when she picked up the license plate, and said everything was great with the car. Mrs. ****** received a regular NC license plate, just like all other customers. Nothing special about it due to her husband being in the military. After leaving that day, we didn't hear anything else from the customer, until we received a phone call from NC DMV. Instead of attempting to contact us about any issue, she went straight to NC DMV to get them involved. We gladly cooperated with the DMV and provided all information from her purchase. The DMV evaluated Mrs. ******'s complaints and all information provided, and found no wrongdoing and closed the case. Only after this did we receive a phone call from ********, where she was being incredibly rude and demeaning towards Phil as he was trying to have a conversation with her. Carfax reports for every vehicle we sell are on our website, and as a Carfax Advantage dealer, are provided to every customer that would like to see it (if they haven't already). To fill in the rest of the story, the "mechanic" that the vehicle was taken to, is all the way in Tennessee. So the vehicle was driven all the way across NC and into Tennessee without any issue (6+ hours minimum). Mrs. ****** and her husband were gladly allowed a test drive prior to purchasing the vehicle, and to take it to a shop of her choice to have it checked, if they wished to do so. They even left some items in the vehicle after the test drive, and Phil had to drive back to the office to meet them after hours to unlock the vehicle so they could get their belongings. They checked the vehicle over to their satisfaction, and proceeded to purchase the vehicle.
