On May 8th, 2023 - we hired Gonzalez Construction to do an additional build on our house. We asked prior to hiring if they were licensed to do the project and if they would get the required permits to which they said yes to both. The initial project started as a small enclosure but on May 9th we decided to extend the structure to make it bigger to which they drew up a new contract (photo attached). We thought they were licensed professionals and knew what they were doing. On May 12, 2023, after giving Pedro the second payment of $4,000. The City of **** ***** came and told them to stop working as there was no permit. After that day, we found out that the company did not have a licensed electrician and they have been giving us the run around since. We have had water damage done to the additional space and Pedro sent someone out to cover it with a tarp but it is still getting damaged. The City of **** ***** sent out an inspector that pointed out all of the things that they did unsafely and incorrectly (photo of text from inspector attached). When I would reach out to Pedro he would not answer or say he isn't in town. My daughter started texting him and that is when he would respond but he has still not shown up for work. They at this point have taken $8,000 and we have an unsafe and unfinished structure. We are seniors and thought we were hiring professionals but it seems they have taken advantage of the fact that we were seniors. They also took advantage of the language barrier with my husband and had him sign the contract when I was at the doctor's office.
