Hired B &B Roofing , contract signed 11/9/22. Contract for “*********** “ shingles. Roof applied while I had to work. Completed. I asked for left over shingles. Over time, delivered, placed driveway, brand side down. The brand, ***. Contacted Mr *****, first he said that is what we had discussed. No, contract ***********, always was. He placed wrong shingles on roof. He said it was an accident. After 30+ years of roofing. He said that he wanted to make it right. I thought long and hard not be vindictive and take advantage of situation. It was wrong brand, wrong color. I asked for a certain amt back and asked him to repair damages in attic. ( boards busted, joints of new boards not with great union) nails used for roofing were too long and placed in inappropriate places, many, many long nails! He also said that he had to replace 10 sheets of wood on roof, “ for small leaks, “ added $1000.00 to bill. He took a pic of a couple of boards, did not look bad. ( don’t believe it) . After many emails, time he came over , replaced a shingle on roof that was not laying flat. Said he decided to return amt I asked for and let somebody else fix attic, “ somebody that can do it right.” Emails again, over and over regarding money. Poor communication, response and excuses. He finally sent me a check, it bounced! I had to go to the bank because my account was suspended. I finally decided, maybe he was having a hard time and decreased amt I was asking returned. Emailed him, told me he would be bringing me cash. When he showed up, he brought me partial payment, told me that he would like to fix the attic. He tried to fix the attic but not much you can do with all the nails from roofing, did not address certain areas marked, placed some boards in strange places. I told him that I would take off partial amt of money I was asking for since he addressed attic. ( poor job) He said that he would bring the rest of money in next couple days. Here it is 2/24, no money. No response to email.

The customer is correct.  We installed the wrong manufacturer's shingles on her roof.  We used *** ********** shingles in the color Pewter, although the contract says *********** Pewter.  This was our mistake.  Since 1989, we have Never made this mistake.  These brands have the exact same warranty. We realized the mistake when she asked for an extra bundle of shingles for future repairs, and I brought her the *** ********** shingles in lieu of the *********** shingles in the exact same color.  When the mistake was realized, we offered to replace her roof with the correct shingles at no additional cost, but she declined, and instead asked for reimbursement in the amount of $2,000 after I completed the repairs in her attic.  She accepted the $1,800 with the understanding that I would be back with $200 at a later date.  I have mailed her a certified check for the balance.

The customer's second complaint is the I dropped off the additional shingles face down on her driveway as i I was trying to hide the fact that they were the wrong shingles.  However, it does not matter what side the shingles are laid on as the label is on the front and back as well as the sides.  I was not trying to hide anything.  (See photo #1)

The customer also states that I used the wrong nails on her new roof.  The nails that were used are standard length nails provided by the manufacturer to ensure that the warranty is met (See photo #2 & #3).  We always use the nails provided by the manufacturer.

The customer also complaint that we did not use 10 sheets of plywood.  On November 9, I texted her copies of photos as we were working to indicate where we were placing plywood.  In many areas, we used half sheets of plywood to reduce her costs because she had many areas of rotten wood.  We used all 10 sheets of plywood to reinforce her roof.  This is standard procedure.  We have evidence of this in text messages back and forth with the client including photos of our work while we were working on her roof, and she agreed to all repairs.  (See photo #4 -11)

The current roof is also a dimensional limited lifetime shingle to match the same life expectancy of the *********** brand.  It was an unfortunate mistake and the reason why we refunded the customer the $2000 of the cost of the project.  The initial cost of the roof was $7,500 and after her refund, she paid $5,500 for the roof.  This is the price she agreed on in lieu of replacing her roof with the other shingles.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

      Customer response

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

B &B Roofing has dragged me through months of reimbursement promises, bounced check and incomplete fulfillment of cash reimbursement, at the time of this complaint. I have now , as of 3/11/23, received a money order for $200.00.
His response to my complaint has important omissions of the communications that have transpired between the 2 of us.

Mr ***** mentioned replacing the roof that he just put on,  just casually. I did not think it was a sincere offer.

I really did not want them to rip off the just replaced roof and damage the foundation, of the roof, any more. He already had hundreds of long nails coming through plywood, busted plywood and a cracked rafter. He replaced 10 sheets of plywood for “ slow leaks,” I had never seen any plywood in the attic that had leak issues.

Mr ***** did not mention my FIRST request to reimburse me  for “1/2 of the original quote, “ $3750.00. He had visited my home and said that he had decided to pay the $3750.00 and let someone else repair damages in attic ,”someone who could do it right.” After months and excuses, he mailed a check for $3750.00 that BOUNCED! My account was suspended and I had to visit the bank to repair.
He then promised to pay in cash.

His delay in payment made me think, maybe he was having a hard time and could not return the $3750.00 that he agreed to. I am a sucker. Feeling bad about being in this dilemma ,I said just give me $2500.00. He never intended on giving me the $3750.00. His error on shingle brand was discovered and communicated to Mr ***** on November 19, 2022, discovered when he delivered an extra bag of shingles used on the house. His check for $3750.00 bounced around  1/23/23. ( That is when I received notification) so, here we are 2 months out. I should have filed a complaint at that time.

Then he visited to bring me the payment in “ cash. “ he showed up with partial payment of $1800.00 and said that he wanted to fix the attic.  He worked in the attic but did not fix all the places that I pointed out. He somewhat tried. So, I said you can give me $2000.00, since he tried. Then he disappeared. He said he would bring the rest of cash in a “ couple of days.” I emailed him on 2/18/23, no response. Gone. No response until I filed a complaint to BBB on 3/6/23.  i received a check on 3/11/23 for $200.00.

It is my understanding that the  warranty for *********** is not honored unless the roofer is certified for *********** installment. After my installation , I read that he is certified for GAF, do not see that he is certified with ***********.

Once Mr ***** left without paying the total requested reimbursement, he blew me off, thought it was ok to walk away without paying the rest. Not until I filed a complaint with the BBB did he acknowledge me. I am back to original amount requested, $3750.00, which is not even fair to me. I have the wrong color roof, the wrong brand and an attic that is never going to be totally intact. I will always be looking for leaks.

You may think it is unfair to continue with my quest for Justice but I feel he really treated me unfairly.

His story “first time in 30 years”  is unbelievable. How many roofers do not read their contract prior to ordering supplies. I am a nurse, I read my orders 2 times before implementing them. He can stick to this story but I am not buying it.

He was dead set on not paying the initial request for $3750.00, that is why he keep dragging this out, 4 months latter and writing a check that he never intended to be cashed.

      I am not satisfied.

Thanks for helping with this matter.

      Sincerely,

      ********* ***********
