I am writing this to vent. The BBB has listened to me in the past, and I PROMISED the sweet, apologetic sales lady that I would once again avail myself of your attention. Uncommon Scents & Gifts is an optically very nice gift store. I went in today and saw that for myself when I brought in a handbag that I had just received from my daughter on the Sunday before today, a Wednesday. When Lara presented me with the birthday present - a very nice shoulder bag that I just did not need and wasn't my style - she told me that she was sure I could exchange it if I didn't want to keep it. So, knowing I wouldn't hurt her feelings if I did exchange it, I was astounded that this nice looking store refused my entreaty to just exchange the bag. First, I had no receipt. The saleslady acknowledged that it was indeed their bag, but no receipt, no accomodation. Ok, so I got Lara on the phone, she sent a text picture of the receipt to the store manager. BUT, the receipt showed that the bag had been purchased more than 7 days ago, AND SO, store policy, NO RETURNS, NO EXCHANGES, NO NOTHING AVAILABLE to me. Again, I am only venting, because this isn't a question of anything dangerous or illegal or suspected fraud, but how can a retail store expect that this policy is anything but unacceptable to customers who lead lives that just don't mesh with a policy such as that??? If I ever thought that the place would be a nice one to shop in, I don't now. I believe that "Buyer Beware" might be might be the appropriate slogan to remind any reader of this commentary. I take the liberty to embellish the admonition to "Buyer Beware - DON'T BUY."
