We contracted a major remodel in August of 2020. The given contract estimated a 4 month completion date. As of June 2022, the work is still not complete. We have paid in advance for milestones that have not been met. Since then items have been stolen from our house by workers of Tree 2 Key, a key was misplaced, and damage has occurred. The work that is complete is of poor quality and not to any specifications that we requested. Tree 2 Key refuses to answer calls, emails or texts, and has seemingly abandoned the project after cashing the checks. We are seeking a resolution to this before involving law enforcement.Initial Complaint

I signed a contract with Tree2Key to remodel an unfinished basement at **** ********* Drive, Raleigh, ********, on 3/1/2021. They applied for permit on 4/7/21 and permit was issued on 5/17/21. They were supposed to complete job within 4 months. I paid $15,000 so far. Tree2Key has delayed this project from day 1. It has been over 6 months and they are nowhere near done. Weeks have gone by with no work being completed. They are supposed to detail weekly updates, but they do not provide them. In fact, the only time they communicate with me is after I contact them. They almost never answer my first request and only answer after the second or third request. Some of their workers say that the company has too many open jobs now and can't handle the work load. I was told that the job would be complete around 2 months after the drywall is installed and we are no where near that point. I am paying an additional $450 on my apartment lease each month over the cost of a 12 month lease.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 21, 2021/11/03) */ I have been working hard to finish the basement at **** ********* Drive, ****************. We have a framing inspection this morning as we work to get the okay from Wake County Inspections Department to move towards hanging drywall. ****** ******** and his daughter,******** ******* who owns the home with her husband, signed a Change Order with me on September 13th where I agreed to pay the extra rent as mentioned in Mr. ********'s complaint to your office. Following that Change Order they had me proceed with finishing the basement. On October 8th I emailed Mr. ******** evidence of the passing by Wake County Inspection Department the electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections. A progress payment of $24,900 was due to me from Mr. ******** and his daughter upon the passing of those inspections. Mr. ******** said he would pay me the progress payment when I removed a short wall that that had not been removed yet. I told him I would remove the wall as we worked towards the framing inspection which was the next inspection from Wake County. We removed the wall on October 27th and I asked Mr. ******** for a progress payment. He and his daughter left that day for a trip so I met Mr. ******** on Sunday October 31st and he gave me the check. The framing inspection is this morning November 3rd. We hope to pass this inspection so we can then insulate and hang drywall in advance of installing cabinets and painting. I have agreed to pay for a storage type POD to be delivered to his apartment building empty and then moved to the home at ************* Drive. We are working on that Change Order now. I will continue to move diligently towards completion of finishing the basement and hope Mr. ******** and his daughter will be satisfied with the progress and finished basement. ******* ***** Tree 2 Key Builders, LLC
