I contacted American Metal Buildings to get a quote for a metal garage. Their price seemed fair, and the company really seemed like they were all inclusive- they could provide everything needed to build to garage from start to finish. And I was told within 2-4 weeks. That’s exactly what I needed, since my trade is not construction or building of any kind. I’m also 7 months pregnant and my husband and I were needing this project finished before the baby gets here. I then found out I needed to acquire a Building Permit. The building inspector tells me I have to have plans/drawings for what I’m building in order to obtain the permit. (Makes sense) So I go back and email the company and let them know that in order for us to proceed, I need the plans to get my permit first. I’m told I have to make a deposit of $7,028.03 and then I will get the plans. (Seemed fair, they didn’t want me running off with the plans for someone else to build it. Even though $7k for plans seemed excessive, I understood and was serious about having the building built.) So I pay the deposit over the phone, after signing the contract that was sent to me with details of the invoice. I get a email back, with a attached 35 page “packet” of specs. No where in the packet, was the 50x50, 2 garage door building. So I take it back to the building inspector, he flips through and hands it back to me… he needs the plans for the ACTUAL building or no permit. (Makes sense) So I email the company again, and let them know what he says. I get no response. So then I call. Then I’m told she will get a quote for me. A quote? I already paid a $7.028.03 deposit and now I have to pay for the building plans you said I would receive after paying the deposit? Now, I’m questioning the integrity of this company. I still have another $40k to pay- this isn’t feeling right and I feel scammed. I have asked for my deposit back so I can just walk away- and I was told no refunds.
