At first this seems like a good sale and a good way to sell outgrown children's clothes, etc. However, as you start to research it and prepare to sell, more and more red flags start to appear. You have to pay to consign, understandable. They take at least 40-65% of the sale price of each item. More if they have to tag it or put it out. You have to pay a fee if you want to shop earlier, up to $100. They ask people to volunteer their time in order for the privilege of being able to shop earlier. So you volunteer time in order to give them money. They are also constantly asking for people to donate food to them in exchange for being allowed to buy stuff from them or say that it will be free advertisement for your business, despite being asked to cater food for 25 people for free. They ask for volunteers to help tag clothes and put them out, yet people are paying extra for this service at drop off. They ask you to advertise for them on social media in order to be able buy stuff from them earlier, etc. This is not a non-profit that they want people to volunteer for. They want you to donate your stuff that doesn't sell so they can donate it themselves, presumably to get a tax write off for their business. A HUGE red flag is that they will not provide you with paperwork of what items you had sell unless you pay them for it. So unless you pay them extra, you have no idea what items actually sold and for what. You have no proof that they took the percentage they were supposed to or that your items weren't stolen. If they think your item is not sellable, they reserve the right to remove it from the floor and throw it away or donate it, then they fine you. This is actually illegal and a misdemeanor to not provide the sale information to the consignor.
