I hired Icy Hot to come give second opinion on repair of HVAC gaspack. They came out inspected and found pinhole in heat exchanger, however would not diagnoses or tell me why the unit wasn't working. They would only quote me a new unit. They gave me verbal of cost to fix($3500), but wouldn't give me anything in writing of what needed repaired. They also disabled a unit that was working intermittently in 15 degree weather. The next day I called another company out to repair and was a loose wire that was easily fixed. I asked Icy hot to waive inspection fee of $80 and said they weren't responsible for any kind of diagnoses and would report me to collections if I don't pay immediately. I don't feel that I should have to pay considering they didn't come to fix, but came to try and sell me something not needed. Even if it was needed, they could have told me why it wasn't working, which is what I intended. Thank youBusiness response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/03/07) */ With respect to the latest complaint filed about our services, we can only offer our perspective, which was conveniently omitted by the complainant. Mr. ****** neglected to mention that our technician arrived at the property only to be told by the tenant occupying it that the landlord (Mr. ******) had called four other companies to resolve the issue; it would appear that the intention of Mr. ****** was not to actually resolve the underlying problem, but to shop for the cheapest possible 'fix' even if it meant placing the tenant (and the infant residing in the house) in jeopardy. Our technician notified us of the rust on several components of the unit. More importantly, he observed a hole in the heat exchanger, which meant that toxic carbon monoxide was escaping into the residence and being breathed by the tenant and child(ren). So serious was this issue that we are mandated to law to shut the unit down and tag it. These pictures and the gravity of this issue was shared with Mr. ******. It was based on these concerns and Mr. ******'s request that the estimate for a new unit was given--the alternative repairs would have been just as costly, if not more so. Our concern was first-and-foremost to ensure the safety of the residents within the home--something which does not appear to be a top priority of the complainant. The fact that Mr. ****** got another company to turn the unit back on and make some repair (arguably a temporary fix that neglects the most glaring part of this issue--the broken heat exchanger), suggests that his concern is driven by profit and nothing else. We hope that this clarifies our posture. Moreover, our hope is that the complainant will act in accordance with the best interests of his client, as he claims he wishes for others to do for him.
