On Saturday, May 18, 2024, during the ArtSplosure Festival, I parked in the N&O Parking Deck managed by Secure Parking USA. I paid for two hours of parking via QR code when I arrived at 2:32 pm. I returned to my car and left the garage at 5:06 -- 36 minutes late. It was unclear how to add more time for parking and no attendant at the garage.A week later I received a notice in the mail stating I owed $82.00 for the additional 36 minutes of parking (Notice number SECRDU-******). I immediately appealed this notice as the fine seemed extremely excessive. I received a response to my appeal stating the fee would be lowered to $62.00. This is an absurdly high fine. There is no signage indicating the fines for parking beyond the time limit. There is no signage in the parking garage indicating what to do should you return late to your vehicle. Other parking garages in downtown ******* charge a full day's fee (up to $24) if/when you lose your parking ticket. This seems reasonable and fair. At meters on the street, the fee for overage is $20. Charging a parking patron $82 for 36 minutes is unethical.

I parked in a garage owned by this company. They require payment via a mobile app. To use the app, you must create an account. The account creation would not work despite multiple attempts. I assumed I would receive a bill for the 2 hours and 44 minutes I parked there and would have been more than willing to pay for that time as it would've been fair. Instead, I received a collections notice for $82 for non-payment. I contacted the collections company who provided me with the number for Secure A Spot. I called Secure A Spot and their customer service line leads to a voicemail, so I left a message. It has been weeks and I have heard nothing. They clearly do not intend to call me back. This is beyond shady business practices and, in my opinion, a blatant scam. I am not the first person to file this type of complaint if you look at their history and I assume I won't be the last.

This company is a private parking garage company. I parked my vehicle in their deck and paid for 1 hour which costs $5. I accidently went over my time limit by 9 minutes. Now the company is charging $82 for staying over 9 minutes. This is predatory and corrupt behavior. I can understand charging an extra hour, and I have no problem paying another $5. But not $82. This is extreme and ridiculous. I feel that this company is price gouging and ripping people off. I contacted them and they agreed to drop the fine to $62 if paid within 14 days. That is still absolutely absurd. I contacted parking services for the city of ******* and they can't do anything because it's a private business. I will contact the attorney general of NC along with the city mayor, city manager and the town council. I will also contact the local news channel so they are aware. I want people to know what this parking garage is doing. I feel that the BBB should do something about this company flat out ripping people off and price gouging.

Parked in the parking garage at ************************** on 11/29/2023 for about 48 minutes. Upon entering the garage, could not determine how/when to pay or the fees. So I thought it must be like other public garages in downtown ******* where you pay when you exit the facility. When I exited the facility there were no gates nor any place to pay. At this point I did not know what to do.A few days later a received a letter from Parking **************** Services stating that I owed $82.00 and if I didn't agree, I could appeal. So I did appeal and the fee was reduced to $62.00 which is still exorbitant for 48 minutes. The letter states that if I do not pay, by car will be booted or towed and I will be responsible for those expenses as well. So, I am going to pay this fee to avoid any further actions from this company while awaiting a response from the BBB. After searching online, I have found many people who have had the same experience in this garage which clearly indicates to me that the instructions are not clearly posted and understandable to the average consumer.

April 14, 2023 I parked at the secureaspot location at the N&O garage on Salisbury Street by the ************************** as I was testifying in a court case. I scanned the ** code from their sign then tried to input my credit card which was summarily declined. Between my wife and myself we have 6 different credit cards and all were declined. All the cards had ample credit availability on each of them. There was no employee anywhere to ask for assistance. Fortunately another ****** with a monthly pass paid for us to park. When we got home we found everyone of our cards was being hit with 2 charges which one of the banks I contacted told me looked like the charges were from some dating service. We both had to order new cards and have the current ones deactivated leaving us without credit until the new cards arrive. What if I'm only going to be there a very short time, I would rather pay cash instead of putting a small charge on a credit card. There should be a pay booth on site manned by an attendant.

I tried to pay four times with four different cards. There website did not put through any of those payments. I tried to pay after I parked for the amount of time I parked, but couldn't. On the receipt it give a website for appeals. There is no option for appeals on the website at all. Scam.

Over the past year, I have parked several times in the **** ******* **** ******* ** *** ***** ****** ******* *******. On 12/7/2022, I parked there again, right in front of the sign that has a QR code that allows you to pay for the parking using Secure-a-Spot. I paid for 12 hours worth of parking using the QR code--I have the receipt for the $12 payment and emails from the company acknowledging the payment. Nevertheless, when I returned to my car 8 hours later, there was a parking ticket on my windshield [Ref No. *********6]. According to the ticket, I didn't make a payment for my parking. But the ticket says I parked in the "**** lot." The **** lot is located at *** ** ********** Street. That's about 3 long blocks away from where my car was actually parked for the entire day. The parking ticket is clearly erroneous. But good luck trying to tell them. The ticket had no phone number to call to raise any complaint. I tried sending an email to an address listed on the ticket to complain, but never heard anything back. I just received an ominous warning letter in U.S. mail, warning me that if I don't pay $85, they will send lawyers and collection companies to collect. This is ridiculous, and I'm hoping the BBB can get someone at the company to recognize its mistake, apologize, and make it right. In addition to notifying me that the ticket was erroneous and any purported debt collection will immediately cease (and any negative credit reporting eliminated), I should be refunded the $12 I paid on 12/7. Additionally, I think I'm entitled to a free month of parking to make up for the time and emotional strain caused by Secure Parking's tactics. And they should figure out why this happened and make sure it doesn't happen to other folks.

Today on Saturday (7/2/2022)I parked at ****** *** ** ******* NC. I looked on the ****** Street Food Hall website it only said parking rates for Mon-fri. So I assumed parking was for free on the weekends like the street parking. When I tried to pay online it didn’t let me pay. So I just assumed it was because parking was free on the weekends. My friend parked at the same lot and they did not have to pay as well. When I came back to my car 4 hours later I saw that I had a parking violation. Then when I looked online to try and pay it I saw that I had two violations 2 hours apart from each other! I do not feel like I should have to pay because I tried and it wouldn’t take. If I do I would like a discount or something because there is no reason to pay for two violations the same day.

      Hello,

Thank you for contacting Secure Parking, USA. All our lots have clear signage showing how and where to pay.  Payment at the lot that you parked in was via App on your phone. We do not use parking meters - those belong to the City for street parking.  Secure Parking USA does not offer any free parking on any day, or any time period of the day.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:
I had tried to pay on the app but it would not let me input my credit card info. So therefore I did not pay for it. My friend used the app and they received a credit for it and they were unable to input their card info as well. I just think there has to be a better way to pay especially if they didn’t even accept my 3 different cards and my friend didn’t get a ticket.

      Sincerely,

      ***** ****
