I have a home protection plan for my water heater through Duke Energy Progress. It is for repairs or replacement of water heater. Duke contracted with Parlier Plumbing to service my water heater. Nov 2020 Parlier worked on my water heater the wires burned up & they replaced the wiring. I ask for a replacement at the time but they refused. Oct 8 ,2021 they serviced my water heater because I saw wet area under it not a lot of water technician Charles stated it needed to be replaced leaking on the inside. & he remembered he had worked on it & replaced the wires last year. Parlier called me set up appointments for Oct 11, 2021 said i had $1000 coverage and prices have gone up it cost $1250 to replace it I would owe $250. I said no way $1000 is more than enough said smaller units are more. I priced 38 gal unit they bought me its $489 everyday in Lowes. I had a 47 gal Bradford White. I am suppose to get a like for like unit they install a smaller unit & say I owe them $250Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/10/20) */ The customer has a contract with Duke Energy for $1000.00 (they also offer a $2000.00 coverage contract). Our price of $1250.00 includes draining, Uninstalling and hauling old water heater off, purchasing and picking up and installing new water heater. Her Water heater is on a shelf with limited space so we could not install a bigger water heater. We offered her a choice of getting shelf remodeled so that a bigger water heater would fit or going with smaller heater. The customer was told before we set the appointment up that she had $1000.00 coverage but our cost was $1250.00 and that she would be responsible for that amount. She said that's fine and set up the appointment. She was aware of the additional cost and the size of the water and she is responsible for the balance. All Duke Customers are told in advance what their contract amount is and if there is any balance up front. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/10/21) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I was told I would get a 40 gal because the 47!gal would stick out too much they installed a 38 gal did not ask me if I wanted a much smaller tank. Progress energy needs to pay the difference not me. The size I got is less than $500! $750 Installation not hardly less than 45 min to install.
