A deposit of over 50% was overnighted via FedEx and received by Darren at Solid State Tile 4/14/2023. I was told the job would start 30 days after the deposit was received and take about a month. The job started 6 weeks after original deposit and it was exactly 4 months from original deposit (August 14) I received a text asking to collect the bala**e. I immediately drove down the following weekend to find the job was not finished and the master shower was not even operable. The past 4 months I’ve made multiple trips to manage the completion of this project and am extremely disappointed in the management, customer service, work ethic, and final product. The owner, Darren, agreed this is sub par, sent text messages apologizing and stated they would make it right, but turned around and placed a lien on my condo stating final payment has not been received and they would not do any additional work. In the meantime, I am losing i**ome every month because the job is not completed and therefore I have not been able to rent or sell. Unfortunately, even with several trips to **, pictures, and direct communication, the job still looks messy. In addition, I’ve been charged for 2 soap niches that weren’t installed and demolition of the existing tile floor even though they simply laid the tile over the existing floor (no demolition). I’m asking for the invoice to be corrected, the lien lifted, and an agreement made so I can pay someone else to complete the work to the standard promised. Sadly I’ve lost faith that this job can be completed correctly by Solid State Tile and I don’t have any more time to waste. More than 8 months is completely unreasonable.

      Business response

      12/19/2023

I write on behalf of Solid State Tile to respond to the complaint filed by Ms. ****. We have done all we can to satisfy this client.

It is simply false to claim that the reside**e cannot be used or rented. With her complaint, Ms. **** misleadingly attached a bu**h of pictures of the job in progress, when of course any tile project is messy. I am attaching pictures of the finished project as it is now. This is a beautiful job, of which we are proud, yet the client refuses to pay.

As to the quality of the work, the client had some touchup/pu**h out work which we took care of promptly. Throughout the  next three months we went back to the property on five separate occasions to change little things the client wanted changed, as we were being told we would not be paid until she was 100% satisfied. We still have not been paid.

      As to the billing issues:
We finished the project all except the Master shower valve on August 14th. At that time, there were parts which had not been delivered, which made it impossible to finish the valve. At this time we only billed the client for the bala**e leaving out the valve labor until the work was complete.
We did not install soap Niches per the clients request, and  they have been removed from the bill.
We originally thought we were going to remove the existing floor tile to install the new tile but could not do that. The demolition price was therefore dropped accordingly, and we only charged for the demolition of the shower and tub.

We did everything we could to satisfy Ms. ****, but she has withheld thousands of dollars hostage for what, at most, are a few small pu**h list items.  This is the first time in over fifteen years of business we have filed a lien but in this case it was necessary to protect or legal rights and the client has refused to pay for two very beautiful bathrooms.
