I recently had an employee of Denny’s Electric visit with me, in my home to look and discuss what I wanted done in my kitchen. His purpose was to give me an estimate of what it would cost for the work I wanted done...move two existing wall outlets under 2ft, move two existing ceiling lights under 1 ft, add one wall light to which a wall switch was already present, add one island outlet to which electrical wires already existed, and possibly put in kitchen under cabinet lighting. Some days later, I received a written quote from this employee for work discussed. Included was an explanation that under cabinet lighting would be the most expensive part as each cabinet would need to be individually wired and light placed. So, I decided against the under cabinet lighting. He also said they charge $100/hr for their journeyman to work. Work begins. I am home EVERY DAY the journeyman arrives, works in my home and leaves. I kept a log of his hours. He leaves after his first day of work. I discover my oven outlet doesn’t work and my refrigerator outlet doesn’t work. I had to run an extension cord from my refrigerator to another outlet in another room. I called Denny’s the next day explaining I was without an oven and my refrigerator needed an extension cord to work. After two weeks of no work being done, I called Denny’s Electric again. Explained I have been living without an oven for almost one month now and when was this work going to be finished? One month later, the journey man returns to fix the outlet problems he created with the oven and refrigerator and finish the work we had agreed upon. Apparently Denny’s Electric decided the work was finished because I received a bill for materials and labor hours billed the following week. The materials cost seemed correct but the labor hours charged was 14 labor hours @ $100/hr =$1400!! I called and emailed Denny’s electric several times to discuss the 14 hours billed. Remember I was home each day the journeyman was at my home and I logged his hours. He was there 9 hours. Denny’s is charging me 14 hours!!?? Denny’s response was..”we charge for our journey man to drive to and from your home to our warehouse” (it’s less than 5 mins to get to my home from their warehouse). Denny’s also said “we charge hours for our journey man to replace his supplies needed for your work needed”. Remember, I had 2 existing outlets moved (no fishing the walls needed), I had 2 ceiling lights moved (no fishing needed), a new light and switch added. 14 LABOR HOURS BILLED!!! I told them I logged him in and out of my home the two days he worked. He totaled 9 labor hours and would they please only charge for the 9 hours he worked at my home. They said NO! I paid Denny’s Electric ALL the supplies cost billed and 10 labor hours (even tho he was only their for 9 hours). Denny’s sent the remaining amount they say I still owed them, to a debt collector which in turn harassed me for months. I explained everything to this debt collector, which I realized could care less about right and wrong or ethics and morals. I was served papers by a sheriff. I had NO IDEA what or who I was to respond to. I have perfect credit and was consumed with worry my credit will be harmed because Denny’s decided to charge me labor hours that WERE NOT PERFORMED! I gathered all my evidence of 9 hours worked by the journeyman, evidence that I’d paid 10 hours labor, that is paid all the supply costs and still Denny’s is coming after me for 4 more labor hours their journeyman wasn’t even at my home!! I sent all this evidence to the debt company lawyer. As of a week ago, the debt company lawyer took the remaining money Denny’s was charging me plus a fee for sheriff serving papers and court fees out of my checking account! It was totaled over $500! I know FOR A FACT, how many hours their journey man worked at my home. Yet Denny’s Electric would NOT budge on overcharging me 5 labor hours! How many people and businesses within our Community have used Denny’s Electric and been OVERCHARGED whether knowing they’ve been overcharged or not?? I believe this to be robbery! And to make matters worse, the journeyman NEVER EVEN FINISHED all the work he was supposed to finish! I still have no outlet in my island (free wires dangling) and I have a hole in my wall (free wires dangling) where my light fixture is supposed to go! Denny’s Electric stole over $500 from me. How much have they stolen from you? Are you even aware they may have blatantly, without care, overcharged you in labor costs?
