Upon vacating my apartment the guys driving the UHaul damaged the overhead garage door. CPL not only withheld my $1,375 security deposit but also billed me for $2,492.70 garage door damage which exceeds the $2,042.70 invoiced amount charged them. When questioning the $450.00 markup, I was told that it was for my Sunday (weekend) call to apt. mgr. to report it and their maintainence man to assess it. What a rip off! After I moved in I was warned by a Fargo resident not to expect any of my security deposit to be returned as CPM had a notorious reputation for keeping them. I also heard of another former renter being charged for damage to his unit caused by a clothes washer drain in the unit above him becoming disconnected and flooding that unit and damaging his unit beneath him. Such tactics are not a good way to run a business even if they are currently in financial trouble. My dear departed old aunt used to say "GOD WILL GET THEM FOR THAT" and I hope that holds true. UPDATE:
My earlier customer review was unclear in stating the amount of rental security deposit not refunded. I had a $1,375.00 deposit plus accrued interest of $8.02 =$1,383.02. When moving the rented U Haul truck damaged the underground overhead garage door for which CP Business MGMT was invoiced $2,042.70. They then added an upcharge of $450.00 to that amount and charged me a total of $2,492.70 from which they withheld the $1,383.02 security deposit leaving me owing them a balance of $1,109.68. I also related a story told me by a current tenant about a friend of his who had vacated his apartment on my floor and had been billed for water damage to his apt. which had been caused by the renter in the apt. above him. I repeated it as a story related to me, not a fact.
