Auto Body Authority towed my truck. The truck was damaged a half block from Auto Body Authority, so the towing was extremely minimal. Despite that, the company charged me $513 towing. This company's towing prices are way out of line and they are gouging the customer. They seem to think this is acceptable because insurance often pays the bill. That is clearly using the system to their own advantage. The towing company I used the next day charged only $55 to take the truck 10 miles. Auto Body Authority also added extra charges to the base $200 towing charge, like winch ($150), wrap ($50), clean up ($50), and administration ($30). I thought a winch was standard on a tow truck. The owner said, "Why do you care? Insurance will pay for it." Well, no it won't for me. And even if it did, they are price gouging to line their own pockets. They told me, "We have expensive trucks we have to buy." I am not responsible to pay for their equipment. If I were at a mechanic to have my oil changed, they would not over-charge me because of the high price of the lift they used.

Auto Body Authority Towing & Impound, Inc. Response

    01/30/2022

my response to this complaint is that we were called by 911 dispatch that an accident had occurred at 38th and Cornhusker. Upon leaving for the accident Auto Body Authority received a phone call from a very concerned officer asking us to bring a second truck to help secure this vehicle and properly retrieve it from the deep ditch of mucky water next to the roadway that also butted up to a farm field on the other side. The ****** Frontier truck had left the roadway landing partially on its side after hitting the "Welcome to Bellevue" stone sign causing it to break into pieces also hitting a large tree as well that was flanking one side of the sign. I am proud of how we handled this and in the interim did not cause more damage to this truck. As it stood it was going to probably be considered a total loss to the vehicle as well as the sign and the tree. But upon reaching the PI accident we were able to access that being call to bring a second truck was important for this situation. It was a crucial call for safety of others involved as well as our recovery. A WINCH was a necessary move as I mentioned the vehicle was a total loss but we are still responsible for securing and moving this in a proper manner. WRAP was done because prior to our arrival either Police or Fire needed to gain access to the truck
for retrieval of the injured party and a window was damaged. With chances of inclement weather, we always provide this as a service to protect owners vehicle and any proper that was left in the vehicle due to the fact that the party was taken from the scene via rescue squad. CLEAN UP was done at the scene to retrieve parts, place some of the stone sign up and out of the way while removing the vehicle so as not to drag this along with as the winch/tow was taking place. ADM fees follow as paperwork begins
once the vehicle has been brought back to our facility to do a vin check with the state/proper authorities to ensure that it is identified correctly. These trucks are crucial to our business and I am proud to say as a safety issue are responsible for doing the
job in a manner that was definitely warranted during this recovery.
It is unfortunate that a full coverage insurance was not in place for a 2014 ****** Frontier Pick up. When this happens we have suggested to some people
if it works for them that if they turn over a title (if they have a clear title) we will only charge them the tow fee and absolve all other fees clean out their personal belongings and we will dispose of the vehicle. This was an offer made to them as well.
