Sept 4th 2021 I bought an SUV from Auto Source in Omaha. I saved for 2 years and paid cash outright for the 2009 ***** Traverse. I got to drive it for 8 days before the transmission went out and it was no longer drivable. It sat in my driveway for 8 weeks waiting to be repaired.
I bought the SUV "as is" but took the chance to reach out to the dealership- thinking if they were nice people they would want to help but understanding legally they had no obligation. We were met with "let me talk to the owner." Which gave me some hope that we weren't entirely screwed. Weeks went by- we kept calling- and calling and calling. Finally, they called my Justin and said " you have to buy the parts and we will cover labor to put the transmission in." I was overjoyed! They were going to help! So- we asked details about how much it would cost etc and we were met with more waiting while they worked out the details. They called and said- the transmission will be 3400 dollars- and you have to pay to get the SUV back up to Omaha. Justin- knowing things about cars- didn't think that sounded right. So, we took some recommendations and called around in town to get quotes. **************** in Lincoln would do the whole thing- parts and labor- for 3700. They were nice enough to break down the quote into parts and labor. 2200 was the actual transmission, fluids etc and the rest was labor. Justin took a day and ran up to Omaha to chat with the dealership. It doesn't make any sense that in Lincoln the transmission plus other parts is 2200 and in Omaha it's 3400 for the same thing.
We thought we would save some money, and it would be done locally so if there were anymore issues- it would be taken care of in town. We were completely surprised when the answer was- "I understand why you would want it done in town- let me talk to the owner." Justin called me saying they didn't completely shut him down. Another week of waiting and they called saying the owner said no. He wanted it done in his shop- which I get- you already pay people to work on cars- so less money out of your pocket. So I asked when it would be done because this was purchased to be a winter vehicle to ***tect my son and I and we were met with- "oh I don't know if we can get it done before snow flies. Let me talk to the owner" 🙄
While we were getting quotes- I told Justin to just put it on the books at ***. I figured the worst that would happen is we would end up canceling the appointment. Mind you we called for quote in October and they were a month out so we had an appointment set for Nov 4th.
Out of nowhere- two weeks before it's set to go in at ***- still waiting for a time frame and more details from the dealership and they finally call Justin. "ILL WORK ON THE OWNER AND WE WILL PERSONALLY SEND YOU CHECK- Just take it somewhere local and get it done- we won't have it done before snow flies" So, we waited the two weeks and took it to **************** and got it fixed. It's been over a month since the call---and IM STILL WAITING FOR THAT CHECK!!!!!
Also, let's talk about the fishy part of this whole deal. **************** can do the entire job- parts and labor for $3700. Auto Source wanted me to pay $3400 for just the transmission itself. So, as I've talked to people- the consensus is Auto Source was up-charging the parts to cover their labor cost- they tried to make it sound like I was getting a deal and that they were helping out.
The first time Justin talked to them they said They said they weren't trying to screw anyone over- they wanted to help- and wanted everyone to be happy with their purchase and wanted us as returning customers. Basically- they strived to keep a good reputation.
But buyer beware because they don't stand behind their word
