My then-husband and I took out life insurance policies on each other, from Lincoln National Life, in the late 1970s. When we divorced, in 2002, we decided that we would leave each other as beneficiaries on those policies for the rest of our lives. My ex-husband died in December 2021. I filed a death claim with Lincoln National soon after. I was immediately set upon by Lincoln National reps to transfer my portion of the policy in to my own name for a significantly higher premium. I received several calls a week until they finally accepted 'no'. Vultures. After months of getting the runaround, and multiple requests from Lincoln to submit more documents, I called and spoke to a rep. She sounded like a giggly teenager who told me I wouldn’t be receiving anything. It should be noted that, although Lincoln National apparently knew in 2002 that neither my ex-husband nor I could ever receive benefits, they accepted premiums for the next 20 years. The company cited the Washington statute that revokes the right of an ex-spouse to benefits unless they are renamed as beneficiary. My ex-husband and I had called Lincoln National in April 2002 to advise of the divorce and ask for direction. We were told that all was well and we needed to do nothing more. Interestingly, Lincoln National conveniently claims to have found no record of our call. For anyone reading this thinking that ‘the old lady just wanted a payday’….I am raising grandchildren now who need braces, college funds, and basic necessities that all children need. This policy would have also helped with my ex-husband’s final expenses which took some effort to cover. The takeaway here is: in the evert of divorce, make sure your divorce decree addresses life insurance and make sure you get correct information from the insurance company regarding beneficiaries; always have a will; do your due diligence and only deal with reputable life insurance companies. I would never recommend Lincoln National to anyone.

This company doesn't even rate a star. I signed up for short term disability insurance when open enrollment began 10-2022. I suffered an injury in 11-2022 that required an appointment with a specialist and after an X-ray I was informed I required surgery to correct a set of contacts that had functioned properly since 2017. I completed the FMLA paperwork with my employer for the time off after surgery and the specialist's office completed their forms shortly after and faxed them to *** on **********. The interstim device ultimately required replacement of the generator and the contacts as well when the surgeon found 2 of 4 leads had disconnected or shorted out. I was required to repeatedly submit the same forms again and again and even a copy of the faxed documents from 12-05-2022 with a fax confirmation from ***. Ultimately my claim was denied by phone when the *** contract states the denial and other items would be handled in writing. I filed an appeal and harassing phone calls began with an employee stating two other doctors had said it was a preexisting condition. Neither of them has ever been an attending physician for anything related to the device or anything remotely associated with. I have read a high number of negative reviews on *** with strikingly similar results to the same type of claim.
