My wife, Robin *******, hired Alex ********* to load our 26' ****** trailer for our move from ************ to ***********. He quoted her $*** for 2 men for 4 hours, and were assured that they would be able to empty our house in that time. We were promised that they would show up at 1pm on Oct. 1st. That afternoon they called and said they would be "a couple hours late" but that they were bringing a 3rd man to make it go quicker. As it turned out, they were 4.5 hours late, only beginning work at 5:30, and the 3rdman was so ill that he spent the next 13 hrs in the back seat of their car. The other 2were exhausted, having already done 2houses earlier that day, and then driving from ***** to ********. They worked for 6hours before we asked them how much this was going to cost. They assured us that they had no intention of taking advantage of us and that they would work with us. They promised that they would stay until the job was done. We agreed to pay for the 6 hours they had already worked ($*** rather than the $*** we were quoted) and they agreed to stay until the truck was loaded. In return, because their 3rd man was sick and they were really trying to help us, I (Roger) agreed to help them. We worked from 11:30 until 5:45am almost without any breaks and

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/02/21) */ The crew had a very busy day as this was our 3rd job of the day. The family was given an estimate of $*** for the 4 hour estimated loading time. An estimate is not a firm price. It's an estimate. The men stayed extra hours at no cost to the customer. The crew did not leave after the 6 billable ours. My crew also mentioned that the truck to be loaded was not in fact a ***** but an *** or ************, tractor trailer. There was more work to be done than the customer lead on. Long story short. My men could have left after the 6 hours billed to the customer. But they didn't. They helped these folks til the end. And gave the extra hours for free. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/02/23) */ My response to Mr. *********** response. 1. Mr. ********* grossly underestimated the time and expense of loading our two story 1900 sq ft home. I believe this was willful in order to "get us on the hook" and put us in the position of having to spend a lot more to get the job done. 2. The fact that the men stayed after six hours and complete the job (which they could not have done without my helping them from 11:30pm to 6:00am, without a break) is due to their willingness to help, and not to Mr. *********, who had nothing to do with the job once his men arrived 4 hours late (the men said that Mr. ********* was "out of town and not answering messages"). 3. Mr. ********* is mistaken or misinformed (or lying) that the truck was and "*** or ************" tractor trailer. It was a ***** 26 foot straight truck, as he was notified and I have the receipts to prove it. 4. Mr. ********* is mistaken or misinformed (or lying) that "there was more work to be done than the customer lead on." There was exactly the amount of work we had described in detail to him. Apparently he failed to communicate this to his men, who were shocked and angered that Mr. ********* had "estimated" two men could load our home in four hours. 5. It sounds as if Mr. ********* is attempting to evade responsibility for all of the above by citing how his crew helped us out. This is a cowardly response that trades his men's generosity for his own culpability.
