  Signed agreement in August 2022 for a front walk and rear patio based upon his providing additional pricing and design. Months went by with no contact initiated by JR. he would always state that it was forthcoming shortly but would never come through with ANY information or pricing. We asked for our money back as it was obvious in November that he had no intention of doing the work in 2022 and we were promised that we would be first in the spring. When we contacted him in the spring - he has never to this day initiated any contact with us - he said that he would start as soon as the ground dried out, which I explained to him it was already ready. Empty promises continued until May when he sent a subcontractor to dig for the patio and walk. Another month went by full of empty promises before he sent the same subcontractor back who did a very poor quality job setting the front walk, very obvious that his sub was not a qualified outfit. When I complained he promised to come out and fix it himself but sent the same sub back out to do it again, with similar poor results. After another two weeks of him promising to be there but once again NEVER initiating a call or offering an explanation as to why he was not doing as promised, I emailed him telling him that I needed him to back up and do as he originally promised - provide a price, design and schedule prior to any more work taking place. This he was unable to do. I finally told him that he was off the job and asked for him to bring over his costs to date so we could reconcile and call it quits but have not yet seen any information. This guy is as dis-honest and misleading a person that I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with and tells stories with no compunctions at all. His constant making up of ridiculous excuses is insulting and he does not view his customers as real people. $5,200 deposit and 0 work done by JR, 0 acceptable work done, lawn dug up and left a mess.

  Despite the difficulties we have had with JR Masonry, we were able to come to an amicable agreement.  The owner of JR Masonry met with us and explained that he was put in a difficult situation with his workload and agreed that he should have been a better communicator and that he fully intended to do the work but suffered setbacks that continually altered his schedule.  We do not now feel as though he was dishonest intentionally, but was under tremendous pressure to complete his overbooked schedule.  While his subcontractors work was not acceptable to us, hiring them did show that he was making an effort to produce some progress on the work that we had booked with him, and we do believe that he intended to correct the work that the subcontractor had done.   
  He understood our frustration with him, returned the entire amount of our deposit that was requested from him, and we parted ways without animosity.  We believe that he is essentially a good person who likely would have done satisfactory work if he was not in the circumstances that he was in at the time.
