JTA Carpentry Service Jonathan B******** *** ******* Rd Plaistow, NH 03865 Tel.: 603-247-8359 June 13, 2022 I am writing to you regarding the stairs and hallway project you were hired to do at my home at ** **** **** in Londonderry, NH on April 27, 2022 in an attempt to resolve several issues related to the work performed at my home. I have sent to you several messages over the past two weeks in attempt to work out a solution to the following project areas of concern that have been noted to you as stated below: 1. Stair treads/risers. You put all the stair treads in first and it is my understanding you are supposed to alternate between tread and riser or put all risers in per consult with other professionals. I have asked you to correct this so that we can add wood risers to match the existing treads. I have also been told the tread on the existing stairs should have been removed prior to putting on new treads. There is also open space on each side of the staircase where treads should have ended. 2. The hickory flooring across from the laundry area has molding running along the side of the railing, approximately 5 inches in from the edge, with an open corner area showing the subflooring plywood. I am not sure if you cut the strips too short or what the purpose was for putting molding along the whole interior side of the railing which presents a tripping hazard. I have asked for this area to be corrected. 3. There is no hickory flooring under the heater vent to the left of the stair platform - just exposed subflooring and needs to be addressed. 4. The plywood used for the top stair treads needs to be cut appropriately Right now, there are corner pieces of plywood that can easily break off not to mention the esthetics of how this looks. 5. You have two different pieces of molding running along the side of the upstairs flooring over the edge that need to be removed and done again. This is the area the existing carpet was wrapped around. So I attempted to reply as instructed but the code has expired so I will elaborate here the woman from Londonderry had requested me to use a different material for her stair risers after they were already agreed-upon in a work agreement purchased and fabricated to be installed before she decided to change them and then refused to pay for the stock or labor and to redo them so I am at a standstill where is if she’s not going to pay for the change in materials and work then I’m not going to continue to do it for her there is no balance owed to her nor Am I responsible for her staircase being out of code due to the fact that I did not frame the stringers I only installed treads

The customer a.k.a. ***** ***** asked for a quote to put new treads and go over the kick plates with new materials I quoted her for hardwood treads and a kick plate cover when she saw the materials she requested something else to be used after they had already been purchased fabricated and partially installed/in the middle of installing I agreed to do it for her as long as she covers the difference in cost and labor she refused and therefore we are at a standstill are use the remaining balance of stock money to purchase the new materials she requested but until she agrees to pay for the labor of the installation there is nothing I can do I have no obligation to complete this project and lose money therefore  the ball is realistically in her court , Our work agreements specifically states which materials would be used to request a different usage after the fact of them being manufactured the cost would fall on the homeowner/customer

I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because: The work is incomplete and sub-standard.  Professional carpenters have indicated many issues.  Below is the agreement the company sent to my attention prior to work. There were conservations back and forth about using hickory stair treads.  There was no discussion related to using plastic white wall covering for a riser.  One contractor installed one and he was told to remove it and use wood.

'I, Jonathan B******** of JTA carpentry service. Do agree to complete the following project as listed below at the address of ** **** **** Londonderry NH, for the total amount of four thousand four hundred and thirty dollars. Project being installation of hickory flooring and and stair treads, with kick plate. All installations will be sanded and polyurethaned. To be completed in a timely manor and workmanship will be quality to homeowners satisfaction, project will not take longer then 1 week but expected to be roughly 4 days total. Deposit being 50% with the remainder upon completion/ final walkthrough.'

      Sincerely,

      ***** *****
