5 starsMy dog ********************* has been treated for two different medical issues at *****. The first time she was treated there was for an what was diagnosed as "dry eye". If it were not for **************************** ****** would now have lost her vision in her eye. This year we again found ourselves at PCVRH when ****** was diagnosed with a specific uncommon type of lymphoma. I cannot say enough about ***********************, his knowledge and his kindness. ****** is now in complete remission. I also want to thank ********************* the Oncology Concierge and her patience with my many questions. I highly recommend ********* Veterinary Referral Hospital.Review fromSpencer T

1 starThe ER has gone from bad to worse. First strike: we brought our dog to the ER for sudden focal seizures (from what turned out to be cryptoccocus meningitis). Kathleen G****** insinuated that we must have CBD he ingested?! When that didn't fly, possibly cancer? In other words, everything other than what was right in front of her. He stayed over for them to 'figure it out.' The next morning he was discharged without diagnosis. On the way home, he had a rapid succession of seizures. We went right back. A different vet apologized then shared he suspects a heart issue, so of course an (expensive) litany of EKG, ultrasound etc. Another night stay. The next day: His heart is fine! And, we finally believe you about the seizures. We can't help you, but here's a bill for $2800. So, strike one and two. Strike three happened today, when he presented with lethargy both eyes squinted shut (recent cataract surgery). The conclusion: his eyes are OK (not accurate, as it turns out), he's reacting to the recent phenobarbital increase. No treatment plan was offered for review. OK. We'll take him home. We notice a $250 IV charge for fluids. What? We have to go, his insulin time is coming up, and we were told he didn't need fluids. Kristine appears again. The only way I can describe her behavior is a refusal to acknowledge anything. She tried gaslighting, first that we had requested fluids (not true). When we stated it was getting late for his food/insulin, and the $250 charge needed to be refunded, she replied that there were tests done that we weren't charged for (sure), but that she "could add on to our bill if she wanted to." What kind of person in the position of power over people anxious about their sick pet pulls this BS? She was offended we pointed out a blatant treatment mistake. It was evident the staff was in over their heads and protocol went out the window. So, no more ER visits. If you find yourself there, and Kristine E**** walks in the room, request a different vet.Review fromLauren R

1 starHeartbreaking Horror Story: Brought my sweet Barney in on New Year's Eve for basic hematuria in urine because my vet was not opened. He was a little tired but still cheery and playful. I thought he had eaten 600 mg of ibuprofen or perhaps had a bladder / Kidney issue since, as I told the Dr. - he had been whimpering in pain the night before. The doctor who saw him took some tests, but did not take a basic urinalysis or any tests to see if the blood was related to the most obvious reasons for bleeding: bladder / kidney / UTI infection. Or, based on my concern of ingesting a prescription strength Ibuprofen, no tests to check for ulceration causing bleeding. When I told them my dog's poop had some blood in it, they did nothing. She (the vet) did not even consider Ideopathic Renal Hematuria - something dogs get when they just bleed port colored urine (he was doing) and it only takes time to cure, nothing else. All the other possible illnesses would have been simple to cure - hydration, possible antibiotics, and other simple actions. These, however, do not bring in the big bucks. I wish I had time to research all this before Barney died in their care.
The vets and staff played on my fear for my pup and immediately demanded $6,000 before doing anything to help my dog.
Once I paid, before observing my dog or taking basic tests, the vet overzealously and immediately diagnosed him with a very serious disease. They took my very mildly anemic dog (25 RBC Count - a moderate anemia which any dog losing blood in urine would experience) and gave him an unneeded transfusion ($$cha- ching, both for the vets themselves, and the facility). They did not match him properly and he had a massive reaction to this incompatible transfusion. He dropped immediately to 14 RBC - which is severe because his body rejected the plasma put into him. He was cheery one day, jaundiced and failing the next after being in their care. They chose the worst case and overzealously treated it before considering the simple, easily cured options. They never tested for the basics and never offered alternative options. They proceeded with dangerous procedures without EVER discussing the major risks or getting my approval. When a dog has a reaction to a transfusion, you are supposed to stop immediately and provide therapeutic care. They continued on. And then, within 2 days gave him two more transfusions. They eventually caused Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury after I asked them to slow down with transfusions. He died from this - hypoxia -and circulatory overload caused by the Transfusion Related Lung Injury. What’s even worse is they kept him in a state called “bounding” which implies shock and cardiac panic for five hours- without putting him on high flow oxygen. He died a horrific, gruesome death when he probably had a simple issue that could have been cured without hospitaization. They did not care about my dog - they cared about pushing costly, unneeded procedures to rack up a bill. My beloved young dog is dead. And he died alone (they barely monitored him) and needlessly. Please don’t ever trust your animal to this facility.Review fromJennifer R

1 starWorst vet clinic I've ever been to in my life! I brought my dog, a dachshund, in for a nail that got ripped off. I was told on the phone that when I got there, that I would have to text them + they would take us in. When I arrived, a girl came out + said she would take my dog + I could stay in the car. I told her I was informed that I would be allowed in as well. I told her my dog was anxious and that he didn't know them. She said she'd ask and went back inside. When she returned, she said it was OK for me to go in. She said they weren't having people come in because the exam rooms couldn't accommodate that many people. We go in a normal exam room which was the same size as any other vet I've ever been in, so I couldn't understand what they were talking about. A few minutes later, the vet tech comes in to say she was gonna take my dog to go see the vet. I told her he was nervous and that they would probably have to sedate him. She said he would be fine and carried him out of the room. The vet comes in maybe 5 minutes later and says my dog bit her and the vet tech. I told her that I had informed them several times he was anxious and nervous. Now mind you, these are people who work with animals all the time and they know he's in pain because of his nail that was ripped off, they also knew he was anxious and nervous and that I wanted to be there and yet they took it upon themselves to think they knew my dog better than me. My dog has never bit anyone!! On top of all that, I get home and get a phone call from the police to let me know the emergency clinic reported my dog to them. This office is a joke. The only reason i went there in the first place is because my vet didn't have any openings and my dog was in pain. I will NEVER, EVER in my life ever set foot in this facility again. I caution anyone reading this to take your pet somewhere else!!!!!Review fromPriscilla P
