I purchased a 2015 Mercedes Benz GL550 in late July of this year for $22,000 and now less than 3 months after I purchased it, the entire engine needs to be replaced. I contacted the business and they told me that it was not their problem. I requested to have the car replaced and they only offered to repair it with a 15 percent discount on any repairs. The cost for a new engine is over $34,000.Business response

This customer purchase the vehicle three months ago which unclouded our 7 day warranty. The customer declined to purchase an extended warrant which is available in 12 month and 24 month options. We offered the custome this warranty but he declined and signed the disclosure stating he understands that we do not warranty any issues after 7 days. Over 70 days after the warranty expired the customer is having an issue with the car, he has taken it to another repair shop but has not brought it to ours to look at. We offered a 15% discount on any repairs related to this defect through our repair shop and the customer declined. Hagan’s Motor Pool did not build this car, we purchased it, made any repairs it needed to pass NH state inspection, then sold it. The customer could not detect any issue at the time of sale and neither could we. It took 80 day for the defect to present which is why we encourage customers to purchase the extended warranty. This customer knew he was getting a 7 day warranty and is now regretting not purchasing the extended warranty. We cannot see the future which is why we offer the extended warrant option to every customer. No remedy will be made as we have honored every part of the contracts we signed on this car sale.Customer response

I purchased this vehicle from the business in good faith less than 90 days ago with a guarantee from the business that all parts were in good working order and condition, engine and transmission included. The ongoing deterioration of the engine parts were something that any professional car dealer would be very well aware of as the vehicle had been at the dealership for well over 200 days without being sold at the time I purchased it which indicated that there may be a hidden issue with the vehicle which I am sure Hagans Motor Pool Inc. was aware of. I took the business at their word and again in good faith that all parts were in good condition and in working order only to find that the main component of the vehicle was deeply damaged. That is an unacceptable business practice for anyone to do with a loyal and paying customer and extremely reprehensible as a business especially for the amount of money I paid this business, the distance I traveled to purchase it and the extremely short amount of time that I have had to enjoy this vehicle. A 15 percent discount on any repairs needed is nothing when considering the cost of a Mercedes Benz engine which I was given an estimate of over $34,000. This is extremely frustrating and difficult to deal with a business that has done this. I can no longer get to work and the owner Mike H**** refused to even give me the decency and civility of a phone conversation when I called looking for relief in this matter. I simply am asking to receive the vehicle that I was told I was paying $22,000 for, not something with a faulty engine that was concealed from me at time of purchase.Business response

No one can see the future. I would love to know how any professional technician can determine if a component is going to fail when it presents with no issues and is operating as designed. If an issue doesn’t present any symptoms how does one diagnose it? You seem to think we have great future telling capabilities. We don’t, which is why suggest every customer buy an extended warranty. Basically you drove it for over two months with no issue and I was supposed to know that on day 82 of owning you were going to have a problem. Doesn’t that just sound completely unreasonable?
