I just had an experience where my tractor and trailer was towed by Atlantic Towing and Recovery from a vacant private lot located in Lodi, NJ. During this incident a tractor not registered to the towing company mentioned above and had the name "DAMIT LLC MC 1081419, DOT 3372541" written on it was used to transport my trailer. I was charged $500/hr for 3.5 to tow the tractor, $500/hr for 2.5 hr for the trailer, $125 each for storage & tax $8.28 each. I have a dashcam in my truck that shows that these men gained entry to my truck @0144 and it was started and driven to be disconnected then connected separately (tractor to tow truck, trailer to tractor registered to DAMIT LLC) to be towed. Both were transported separately but simultaneously to the storage facility which showed that my tractor was driven & parked 0217 and trailer stored 2 minutes away. The duration of the journey was less than 30 minutes based on the recording from my dashcam yet I was charged for "3.5 hours and 2.5 hours" respectively. I believe Atlantic Towing and Recovery & DAMIT LLC are engaging in predatory towing and price gouging practices at nights and they should be investigated thoroughly and reprimanded severely. I would also like to see that any overcharge for the Towing of my truck is refunded. I am not disputing that my truck was parked on a private lot without permission, I accept responsibility for that. It is the excessive fees charged to tow my vehicle a mere 6 miles which took less than 30 minutes and with the use of a private tractor to aide in this activity. When I asked why the fee was so high I was told by "ELMO" from Atlantic Towing and Recovery that they had to pick my locks and travel back and forth with my tractor then trailer which was a blatant lie. There are countless other reports of similar nature in the Google reviews about these people gaining entry to trucks, driving them to their storage yards and claiming they towed the trucks and that it took 3.5 hrs to do so.
