Dear Better Business Bureau, I am reporting my conflict with Nexus Properties due to their unfair practices and poor communication regarding my lease termination. I initiated my lease on January 19, 2021, and recently accepted a new job at ***, requiring relocation. On June 30, 2024, I informed Nexus of my intent to terminate my lease on August 6, 2024. To my surprise, I was informed of a termination fee equivalent to two months' rent, a condition not stipulated in my lease agreement. Efforts to resolve this matter through communication have been met with generic responses and evasive tactics. Nexus has consistently delayed providing substantive answers, choosing to copy and paste the same unhelpful texts and pushing for additional payments without proper justification. Despite repeated requests for a direct dialogue with the landlord to discuss my concerns about the deposit and termination fee, my inquiries were ignored. It took multiple emails over a week to receive a response, reiterating their previous stance and imposing a notification period starting from their last response rather than the date of my initial notification. This approach disregards their earlier communication failures and unfairly extends my financial obligations beyond my move-out date. Now, they asked me for two months extra rent in addition to payment of the rent 40 days more, after moving out. Additionally, there is a past instance where I was quoted a $500 fee for lease termination when inquiring about switching apartments due to noise issues, demonstrating inconsistency in their policies. The lack of transparency and the imposition of undisclosed fees are not only a breach of the leasing agreement but also impose undue stress and financial burden. I am seeking the BBB's assistance to rectify this situation and ensure Nexus Properties upholds fair, transparent, and ethical business practices.
