      Bedford Tax prepared my 2019 tax return and they made mistakes and now I owe the *** more money. They advised me I could do it and now they say I am the one who is liable for it. When you go to a tax preparer and they advise that you can take that deduction, how is it my fault. I dont know about taxes that is why I paid $485.00 for a professional to do my return. When I tried to even talk to the person who did my return, she has mysteriously disappeared, so I had to deal with the owner of the company and he was of no help. I feel they should be liable for the money I have to pay now, I dont have it.

      I have received the BBB complaint notification via mail, attached.  Please note, we did prepare the tax return for 2019 in question.  The tax return was prepared by an individual of this firm who has since retired.  This tax preparer is no longer available to discuss this issue with the taxpayer.  The complainant brought this to my attention after receiving an *** notice that her 2019 tax return was under review.  I reviewed the 2019 tax return and determined that the rental activity was incorrectly reported.  As it turns out the *** determined it was reported incorrectly as well.

       

      After reviewing the results, I determined the complainant was charged adjusted tax with no penalties.  I agreed to refund complainant the cost of preparing the tax return, which I did on November 8.  I would have reimbursed her the penalties if any had been assessed, as well.  This is our policy which is in line with industry best practice.  We do not reimburse taxpayers for taxes which would have been owed by the taxpayer at the time the tax return was prepared had it been prepared correctly.

       

      The complainant states the I was of no help.  That is not true.  I understand she is not satisfied with being reimbursed for the preparation fee.  However, while we reimburse clients for fees charged if we are responsible, as we did here, and we reimburse clients for penalties assessed as we would have in this case if penalties had been assessed.  we do not pay taxpayers tax liabilities which is in line with industry practice, as mentioned.

      I am rejecting this response because:

      I apologize for not answering in time to the complaint, it was expired before I had a chance to answer back. My reply to Bedford tax complaint # *******. He says he gladly refunded my processing fee for doing my return. That is not correct I had to literally beg while being on the phone with him for an hour and finally agree. Also, he said he would have refunded penalties which were not accessed because the *** knew it was not my fault, but there were interest fees which I asked to be refunded, which was not my fault and should have been refunded as well at the very least. If I had the return done correctly back then I would not have had to pay interest of $156.00 at the time. He refused to give me both, he said I could have one or the other? Please post this complaint as no one should have to beg. I explained to him, I could have easily have paid my taxes for 2019, but since the pandemic and my husband has lost his job, this was a definite hardship. My husband also has not collected any of his unemployment benefits that could have helped if we get that some day. Thank you, for listening to me and Stay well! Sincerely, **** Fabrizzi
