I started piano lessons for my daughter, ****** *****, on February 6, 2023. The school charged me $37 for registration and $212.50 for the initial deposit, followed by a monthly fee of $162. In June 2023, Octopus Music School (OMS) had a recital, but ****** was unable to perform because they said she wasn't ready, which I accepted. In December 2023, they had another recital, and again, they said ****** wasn't ready. However, I insisted, and she was eventually allowed to participate. In March 2024, OMS raised their tuition from $162 to $172. On April 25, 2024, I enrolled ****** for the 2024 Spring Showcase Recital, paying a $50 registration fee. On May 26, 2024, I paid $37.58 for tickets, canceled other plans, and invited friends to the recital. However, on June 10, two weeks before the recital, I received an email stating that ******'s instructor, Pierre M, had decided to pull her from the showcase, and they refunded the $50 registration fee. This unprofessional behavior was deeply disappointing, especially for ******, who is only 9 years old and was disheartened by this decision. I have three makeup classes left with OMS. but ****** no longer wants to attend, June tuition has already been paid, and ****** attended her last class on June 2. I canceled the class on June 9 as she had a Girls on the Run 3.1-mile marathon. OMS claims they cannot refund the tuition for this month. The Request to Discontinue form asked for the next class date, but we have decided not to attend any more classes. Unfortunately, I had to select a future date (June 17) as her last class, which she will not be attending. Due to this incident and the way it was handled, we have decided to discontinue ******'s classes at this school. This experience has unfortunately led us to question the school's commitment to its students and their development. I am requesting refunds for the initial deposit, ticket price, makeup classes, and this month's tuition as well.
