Initial Complaint

- Complaint Type:
- Service or Repair Issues
- Status:
- Resolved
On Thursday, April 20th, a service technician investigated what was initially believed to be a leak in our central A/C unit. He determined that the unit was low on refrigerant and the source of the leak was actually the condensation melt from the frozen refrigerant line due to being low on refrigerant. He gave us a quote for ~$350 for the refrigerant repair. He said he would need to return on a day that was over 70 degrees so there would be more melt in the frozen pipes to better determine if there was in fact a leak or if the unit was installed without enough refrigerant to begin with (installed in 2021 by previous homeowners). After several rescheduled appointments, the technician returned on Friday, May 26th to complete the repair. He now gave a quote of $1000 stating it would be impossible to find a leak so he would need to add leak sealant instead. We trusted his professional opinion and agreed to move forward. He made the repair and left. The next day when we ran the unit, it was now making a loud noise in the outside unit that was not happening prior to the repairs completed on the 26th. The technician returned on Wednesday, May 30th to investigate. On June 1st, we received a quote for $2,390.33 to, “Recover refrigerant from system and remove existing liquid line filter drier. Install a new liquid line filter drier. Properly evacuate and charge system with up to 6lb R-410A refrigerant.” I called to discuss this with the owner since I couldn’t see how this wasn’t directly related to the repair they made. After numerous attempts and now over 3 weeks later, we still have not received a call back. On Tuesday, June 13th we had another company come investigate and found the only issue was the unit had been overcharged and filled with too much refrigerant and the fan was never secured properly. We feel Gladiator should be held responsible and reimburse us for the costs incurred in addition to an investigation whether they are truly certified in HVAC.Business response

I personally, the owner of the company, reached out 2x to discuss the issue with the homeowners (both husband & wife). This was prior to a second company coming out and diagnosing the issue. Gladiator Services will refund the amount charged by our company to the customer. The plumbing and HVAC field is complex and different diagnosis between technicians is possible and misdiagnosis do occur. At no point in this service was a diagnosis given to deceive or “sell” any unnecessary services.Customer response
