We began working with the property management company Rise Jersey on April 15, 2022. We had a showing with the real estate agent on April 18, 2022. After we viewed the lease and specified all fees and deposits. We paid $90 for and submitted an application (valid 90 days) through our agent. We asked our agent to send us other available rentals. There was no response from the agent nor the company. On April 26, 2022, our agent contacted us and said the landlord increased the rental price. She provided no information regarding other available rentals. We did not withdraw our application. We were approved for the higher rent later that day of April 26, 2022. Our agent informed us of our total fees and it was $500 more than previously quoted. She informed us for the first time that there was a $500 processing fee charged by the property management company, extra from the other rental fees and deposit that we had been quoted. She implied that we had to pay the total fees and deposits in order to see the lease, and after questioning, said only a $200 holding deposit had to be paid. We paid the holding deposit, and they sent us a completely different lease. After being in negotiations, we pulled our application on April 30, 2022. Our agent did not contact us again until May 10, 2022, despite repeated attempts on our end. The agent provided a list of rental availabilities, and we scheduled two showings for May 11, 2022. We had our agent submit our application for another rental on May 11, 2022. On May 12, 2022, our agent informed us that they had incorrectly submitted our income to the landlord and would be correcting it. We asked for the lease on May 16, 2022. On May 18, 2022, our agent informed us that they still had not corrected our income information and that they would not show us the lease. We attempted to continue our search for an apartment both with the agent and the company and have had no response from either since May 18, 2022.
