The ******* retro fitness location was closed with not even a days notice. They sent an email after closing one night that they were permanently closed the next morning and transferred everyones memberships to the Jersey city location thats a 20 min drive away (without traffic). So I start emailing and calling the location, to corporate, every contact I can find and they absolutely will not cancel over the phone or online no matter how much info I give them. I have to send certified mail or go in person to the Jersey city one that I was never a member at and never stepped foot in. This is an absolutely ridiculous policy in the year 2023 and should be illegal. So I call abcfitness that handles the payments and told them to cancel and the employee says okay I can email them and cancel on your behalf. A week later I get charged for the next month. Call abcfitness back and they say yes we can TRY to cancel on your behalf, but its up to retro fitness and their policy is that you need to be in person. And everyone online is saying they send it in the mail and it just gets lost and never gets cancelled so you literally have to go in person its the only option. So then I finally cave and drive to the Jersey city location (most ******* residents dont have cars and needed to pay for an Uber) and after waiting 15 minutes for the only employee there to make 5 smoothies I go to cancel and she says you need a written letter. I said okay give me a piece of paper. She says they arent allowed to provide paper. I had to go next door to TMobile to get a piece of paper and a pen and write out a letter for them to cancel. This is a ridiculous policy that cannot be legal in 2023. This is a scam to make cancellation borderline impossible to force people to pay for another month. Also, the owner is the same for the ******* and Jersey city location, it is so obvious that he purposely didnt inform anyone of closing so he could pull this scam.
