On February 19, in the early hours of the morning, this business towed my car away for a repossession. The problem comes in with them not following proper procedure to do so. By regulations, they are required to alert the local police department when they are towing a car away for a repossession. They did not do so. When I awoke that morning I discovered my car gone. I'm thinking it was stolen, and subsequently contact the police precinct. They had no record of the car being stolen. It was by them, the ******** ************************* (and later, a Nassau County Detective assigned to the case) that I learned they did not follow regulations. Because the police were not aware of the repossession, they advised that I file a stolen car report, which I did. This all took place on a Sunday. The following Monday, I discovered that my car had been repo'd. I was given the name of this agency by the financial institution. I was told that they had multiple locations in my area, and to reach out to them to facilitate the recovery process. When I did make contact, I discovered my car was over 90 minutes away. This created an unnecessary additional challenge with retrieving my car because of the additional expense I had to incur to get to the location. Both law enforcement agencies informed me that had required procedure been followed, the car could have been left in a different location secured by local authorities; this is one of the reasons why the regulations are in place, in addition to protecting vulnerable consumers from unscrupulous business owners and practices, which is common in this industry. To make matters worse, once the vehicle was reported stolen, a national alarm was put on the car, adding further complications to it being retrieved. I had to wait, even after satisfying the charges to retake possession of it, for the national alarm to be lifted so that I would not be arrested for stealing my own car. The detective advised me this company should be accountable.
