    Complaint Type:
    Service or Repair Issues
    Status:

08/07/23: Contacted Lawrenceville Fuel (LF) to install connection for a natural gas generator. LF sends out a technician to view my gas meter. The technician advises that I send them an email. I send an email to LF explaining exactly what I need done with pictures.08/08/23: ************************* (GH), owner of LF, emails a price quote: $665 plus the cost of the permit. He does NOT provide a written contract. He says " We wouild ask you to provide the quick connection for the hose," which makes no sense because the generator's hose already has a quick-connect.08/18/23: I call LF. **** tells me that providing the fitting for the hose should NOT be a problem.08/21/23: **** from LF comes out. Before starting, I show him the hose and generator. He confirms that providing the fittings should NOT be a problem. I ask **** if LF has obtained a permit. He says he spoke to a licensed plumber who told him that no permit is needed. This implies that **** is NOT a licensed plumber himself. **** installs some gas piping and valves onto my gas meter, but he's unable to obtain the correct fitting for the hose. The job is left incomplete.08/22/2023: I email LF to inform that I got the necessary fitting from Amazon. I request that they come back to complete the installation. They don't respond.12/19/2023: LF mails me an invoice for "gas piping" for $555.88.01/31/2024: GH comes to my home unannounced, in an unmarked vehicle and wearing plain clothes. Without knocking, ringing the doorbell, or announcing himself in any way, he proceeds to walk around my property and take pictures. My wife is home alone and is scared by this strange, unknown person. I tell her to call the police. ***** Police arrive and take a report. To this day, LF continues to send me invoices for the incomplete work they performed, even though this work was done without: a) a signed contract, b) a plumbing license, and c) a permit from the township. All of these are required by law.

NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY. The owner (or manager--I'm not really sure) **** is very rude, unprofessional, and a bit unhinged.I hired him to install gas piping for a natural gas generator. First red flag: he incorrectly advises me that no permit will be needed for this job. How can you modify gas piping without pulling a permit? Second red flag: he does not provide any written estimate or contract. Third red flag: His website, letters and emails, vehicles, etc. do not show any license numbers, as required by ******** law. Because I was a naive new homeowner, I missed picking up on these red flags. Via email, I showed him pictures and clear descriptions of the natural gas hose and connector that came with the generator. Via phone communication with his staff, I confirmed that they would be able to provide the fittings to connect this hose to my gas line. When the service technician **** came to do the job, I showed him the hose and connector that I had and he once again confirmed that they could do the job and provide the necessary fittings to connect to my gas line. **** does the job half way and then finds out that he can't get the right fittings. He demands full payment for the incomplete job. I told him that I would pay when the job is complete. After purchasing fittings myself on Amazon, I tried to work with **** to complete the job but he ghosted me--no response at all. FOUR MONTHS LATER, a few days before Christmas, Lawrenceville Fuel sends me an invoice for the work done. I informed them that they abandoned the job and left it incomplete, so I will not be paying. A couple weeks after that, **** trespasses onto my property unannounced, in plain clothes, and in an unmarked vehicle. My wife sees someone messing with our gas line and is terrified. We call the police and file a report.

If **** had cooperated by ordering the quick connect fitting I requested, the job could have been completed. He was given a price of $665, plus the cost of the permits. He failed to have the parts on site. The piece was for one connection, Mian had my tech put in two. My tech had to drive to two supply houses to try to get fittings but was unable. This was a quoted job based on allotted time. **** believes since one of our secretaries told him that we usually provide parts, that he could disregard providing the parts for his installation. Also, I did not advise him that a permit was not needed- we hadnt yet seen the job. Based on his description, only a few fittings were needed plus the quick connect. Mian failed to get the necessary parts from the source of the generator. We wanted parts from the same manufacturers to reduce the chance of a leak. Afterall, we are dealing with a highly combustible fuel. Before beginning the job, I spoke with the plumbing inspector in ***********************************, to confirm a portable generator with rubber hose connector was even legal since it could be placed anywhere. I did not trespass on Mians property. I was asked to pick up our material and wanted to see what was entailed in retrieving it. He had an opportunity to remove and return our parts when he hired another contractor to complete the work. Without payment, I consider our material stolen. I think someone should start a consumer bureau to protect businesses from consumers who decide that their naivety entitles them to tarnish a good companys reputation to get out of paying their bill.
