My name is ****** and I am writing this letter to inform you about the clear pattern of disrespect, neglect, and harassment my daughter and I received from Air India in my trip last week from *** to *********. My Original trip was from ************** from July 23rd to August 8. But Air India cancelled the flight from *** and reschedule the flight on July 27th from **************. The earliest option I was given was July 27 and at ************** only. I would have spent about 20 hours at different times with AIR INDIA toll free number to request them to change my return flight too as my purpose for visiting INDIA was to take care of some legal work which required a minimum two week period. Finally Air India customer service told me to visit the local office at ********* when I reach there to change the return trip. I resorted to canceling my trip as a whole but I was informed that I will get bare minimum after all the penalties they are charging for cancellation. So I decided to continue my trip. In the flight, from Newark to *********, after eating the 2nd meal given by Air India, in half an hour, I felt uneasy and started throwing up. I later came to know that I had food poisoning. In the plane, the medical assistance had to be paged due to my condition. My blood pressure went down and I felt dizziness and nausea. When the plane landed, I was assisted off the plane in a wheelchair by air India officials, and they took me to airport medical facility named Medanta. After initial diagnosis by Medanta doctors, I had been informed that my entire treatment would be covered by the air India as I got the sickness from the unhygienic food in the plane. They had to put 2 bottles of Saline and 1 Bottle of glucose. When I finally still felt better, two officials came to me and handed me a ****, charging me **** rupees. When I disputed this charge, they were very persistence and were not co-operating and they told me they would cancel my flight to ********* and now I need to take all my luggage and get out from the airport in unknown city like ***** and find a hospital and take certificate from them that I am fit to fly. I asked them where I could find a hospital and their reply was get out of the airport and ask someone else. Why would they take me to a medical center, whose medical certificate they couldnt accept? It seemed clear that the Air India workers were corrupt and only wanted to make me pay. Perhaps they were getting commission from the payments from the passengers they forced to go to Medanta. Even though I was medically cleared and had a boarding pass for my flight, they did not let me on. After fighting for hours with airline officials, they finally offered to give me a boarding pass, but on the conditions that I write a statement that that the sickness was not because of food in the plane and I went to medical center at my own will, and that I pay the ****. At that time I had no choice but to agree on all the conditions they told me as I had six bags and my minor daughter was with me. After giving them in writing, the officials told me they dont need fitness certificate anymore. It was clear that they only wanted my money and that the fitness certificate was an excuse for them to harass me. They clearly didnt need the certificate as soon as I paid them the money they wanted. So this is clear case of harassment. They threatened to kick us out of the airport and cancel our flights because we didnt want to pay a **** that we were promised would be paid for us. I am furious they then compelled me to write an untrue statement about how their disgusting food did not cause my sickness. After coming to *********, next morning I went to Air India office to request to change the return flight but according to local officials, there were no empty seats on the flights in the next 20 days. However, when I asked to buy new tickets, they had empty seats in the same planes that were closed when I asked for a flight change. I spend 3 hours at the local office but they wanted to force me to pay $900 per ticket to change the return flight.I take my children to India to show them the good side of India and show them how India has progressed over time. The treatment I got shocked my daughter and I because the ruthless Air India employees would resort to harassing a woman and her minor daughter in an attempt to extort money from us. My family is now willing to take this matter to New ********** and Better Business Bureau or consumer protection council. We have all the proofs including local medical **** from ************* and some videos my daughter took when Air India officials making me write the letter. We tried to submit complain on air India website for last 3 days but only message we get is something went wrong. Please try again . As a citizen of *****************, I refuse to take this harassment and I am willing to exercise my right to fight for my misery that was caused by Air India Employees.
