We had a home inspection done in December and the findings for our chimney were that there are no issues , specifically in our inspection report the following was stated: Chimney: No observed or reported deficiencies. We trusted this opinion and the other findings in the report and proceeded with the purchase of the house. A few months later our chimney was inspected and it was found that the face of the chimney had cracks and deteriorated mortar, which is completely visible to anyone who makes an effort to look at it. In addition, the foundation of the upper section of the chimney is comprised as the previous owner of the house did simple patch up work using a silicone sealant , which is only a temporary fix and also clearly visible. The needed repairs are over $4,000. If any of this was pointed out in the inspection we would have addressed this with the seller of the house. I made ProTech aware of this issue and to see it for themselves, which they are unwilling to. They have offered nothing to make up for this oversight except dispute the findings of the chimney company, because in their opinion, the repairs are not needed and are considered upgrades and the chimney company is dishonest and ripping me off. The problem with this argument, is through our own contractor, we had a second inspection done using a ***** not affiliated with a major chimney company , he confirmed that the repairs are needed. Again according to ProTech the repairs are not needed and are upgrades and we should wait before we do any work . The logic of waiting until the chimney is in a state of disrepair and potentially causing structural damage to our house, makes no sense and is reckless. We paid a lot of money for several inspections to mitigate these exact issues and ProTech failed to do that .
