When we first ship out the knives, the factory coats them in a thin sheen of oil to protect them from extreme temperatures during shipping; sometimes, this oil does not wash off completely, leading to the result you're seeing here. We've had a lot of success with a white vinegar soak. Take the knives, place them in a glass of white vinegar for five minutes or so, then give them a good scrub with a sponge. This usually takes care of the surface rusting and the oil, which means it won't happen again. Please give this a try and let me know what happens! I tried it twice and the spots still persist. I'd be happy to pay the difference if an upgrade to a better quality set is advisable.
