I opened up an account with Powerhouse Gym for my brother-in-law who was visiting us for three months. I wanted to do a three month period initially but the girl at the front desk insisted on the yearly one and that I would just need to call up to cancel. My brother in law has since left the country on February 28th. You can check the gym history to see that no one has accessed the gym since then.Ive sent an initial e-mail on January 27th after a gym worker advised me to and said that she cant cancel via a call after all which is how I tried to cancel. Fast forward to today and I notice that my credit card has been charged for March AND for a yearly fee! When I call the number the employee provided, the person again tells me to send that e-mail and claims they never received the first one. This is the biggest scam Ive ever seen! Not once was I told that I would need to close the account through third-party agencies and what their process was. It turns out Powerhouse doesnt handle the cancellations - its through an outsourced company. Through multiple miscommunications on how to close the account my account kept running active for almost two months longer than necessary! They claim they never got my e-mail even though I offer to send them a photo for proof! Also, when I wanted to try to send another e-mail while on the phone with customer service to make sure they get it this time, they said they cant do that since yet another **** takes care of e-mails. Ridiculous! He told me to call back in a couple days to check. Mind you, the time will be still running and they can charge me more! Ive never seen any other gym be so shady! They basically lie they never received my e-mail and can charge me for however long they want. I actually found out I couldve frozen the account since no one is using it and open whenever but then again no one told me that! I am requesting a full refund for the month of March 2022 and reversal of yearly fees.
