Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with this driveway/asphalt repair contractor, “Asphalt Seal Coating” (aka “JJ Asphalt & Seal Coating”) operated by John J*******. They used an oil-based sealer along with some type of powder to “fill” the cracks. The sealer never cured and is now a sticky mess and the cracks opened back up almost immediately. Our driveway is worse than before his treatment and we now have a black oil-based mess tracked into our garage. John J******* returned one time to review the job. At that time he indicated there was a problem with the work that he “had never experienced before” and that he would not let us down and would fix it. Despite this promise and “All Work Guaranteed” being displayed on his business card, he refuses to resolve the issue and now will not return our calls after many attempts to reach him.Initial Complaint

JJ was given an advance of $8,500 to finish a seal coat job on 6/9/2023. He stopped taking our calls and has not scheduled the work. We tried to contact him multiple times. No response from him for months.Business response

JJ Asphalt did my driveway 3/2021 The "2 coat" job came with a 5 yr warranty. The worker used a split nozzle so they considered this "2" coats? I have called "Johnny" trying to work things out to no avail. He has promised to come check things out, but never does. Since this was during the COVID outbreak I have tried to be understanding. Last communication 1/5/23 was that the manufacturer would pay 1/2 of the cost, but they would have to wait till March to do anything because of weather and temperature. I guess Johnny pocketed the $$ from the manufacturer I have either spoken to them or left messages 31 times. They are no longer taking any of my calls. I have given up on believing ANYTHING they say. I hope this will prevent others from getting scammed.Initial Complaint

On May 7, 2022, JJ Asphalt sealed our parking lot at our business location in Ruidoso, NM. We gave him half ($3,500) up front on May 3rd, and an additional $3,500 on May 9th after the work was completed. We have repeatedly, Nov 18, Dec. 1, Dec. 20, and Jan 25 texted him and his father to get us a W9 for our tax accountant, to which I've received no answer. I did receive a text back from the father that he would get us a W9 as soon as his son came back from Christmas. I attempted 3 times to call both phone numbers, and no answer, and was unable to leave voicemails. All we are needing is a W9 from the Business!Customer response

On August 1st 2022 I reached out to JJ seal coating for an estimate. The owner, John J*******, or J*******, whichever it may be, came to my home and looked over my driveway. We agreed on $1500 for minor asphalt repair and sealing. He sent 1 person to do the job. To be sure the job was done as good as possible I assisted the employee because i could see he was cutting corners from the start. When done sweeping, I had to go to the store for more asphalt patch material. Upon return, the employee had what appeared to be a light coat of so called "SEALANT" on the driveway. He said they needed another $600.00 for a second coat. I called John to discuss, he agreed that the job was agreed upon and needed to be finished as quoted. They applied second coat of "SEALANT"., and the employee left. Two days later sealant had not set up. I called John, he came to look at the job done and said "this had never happened to him before. The "SEALANT" is TAR. It wont dry. asphalt sealer cures in 24 hrs. This substance was sprayed on our proch and sidewalks, oversparay is all over my garage, garage doors and the side of my home though i asked prior to spraying if things needed to be taped off. I also offered help by placing and moving along with a plyboard. 1 week later we removed barriers, drove and walked across driveway. The so called "SEALANT"- was tracked into our patio, vehicles, garage floor and into our home by ourselves, our dogs and company that visited us. I called John again, he advised to apply water, then the following week advised and came to put down sand. The so called "SAND" he came and applied turned out to be crushed coal fines which also migrated all over our property. I called John again, he said he would refund the money and come with chemical cleaners clean up the mess they made but has failed to do so and won't answer or return calls. The money it will take to clean up the mess that JJ SEALCOATING has created at my home far exceeds the money they were paid.Initial Complaint

Told us they would seal our chip sealed driveway but their product is not for chip seal (as per 2 reliable contractors information). Never would come to resolve complaint. Listed #’s on card are wrong-John J******* **. # is ###-###-####. We have also filed a complaint with NM Regulation & Licensing Dept. as of today, 6-10-22Business response

The response from the consumer is false. I am not sure what the consumer is complaining about, I did use the correct materials to seal their driveway and the same materials that were used are also used by the city.
